Coolest license agreement ever

,

I'm downloading and testing a lot of software for my “Nerd-on-a-stick” project (more about that later), and seeing all those MD5 checksums quoted I was reminded again I still did not have a handy hash utility to check those — and I should, of course. I found several freeware ones, a couple that are portable (good for my “Nerd-on-a-stick”), and a shell extension called HashTab. When installing HashTab I had to agree with its license agreement:

License Agreement: “HashTab is the coolest thing ever.”

That brought a big smile, so I could hardly disagree! And HashTab is indeed very cool. Read all about it on Beeblebrox.org, The site that more or less exactly fails to please the senses.

What the hell's HasTab? Pressing the Tab key in a rush?

Dave, as you can read on the HashTab page I linked to in my post:
HashTab is a Windows shell extension which adds a tab called "File Hashes" to the Windows Explorer file properties. The tab contains the MD5, SHA1 and CRC-32 file hashes. These are common hashes that are used to verify the integrity and authenticity of files. Many download sites list the MD5 hash along with the download link. The HashTab makes it very simple for Windows users to check these hashes on any file on the system without using external tools.

That's really handy if you're downloading and testing a lot of software, which is exactly what I'm doing a lot, and especially the last few days. If the downloaded file has the same hash as that quoted on the site of the author, I can be sure the file hasn't been tampered with.

How to use Quote function:

  1. Select some text
  2. Click on the Quote link
