Ottawan in Oslo

Thoughts that go through my brain...

Hockey is BACK!!!

, ,

Hey all,

A new NHL is upon us and I'm pretty excited! I'm in 2 fantasy hockey pools and I am sleep deprived as most NHL games do not start until 1am here in Norway. I mostly watch Ottawa Senators games (my hometown team - see banner p ) but I also like to watch a great game between 2 top teams in the league.

I was lucky enough to attend the NHL Premiere in Stockholm on Octoer 5th where Ottawa played the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins are the defending Eastern Conference Champions and they have 2 of the top players in the NHL: Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby.

I never realized how much hockey was a big part of Canadian culture until I went back to Ottawa in February for 3 weeks. Hockey is in our commercials, coffee shops, and it's even on our $5 bill eek

I came across this awesome video that was featured on Canada's top sports station's web site. It's like ESPN, but you know, better lol

Hockey is BACK and it's pretty sweet

Cheers,

Jason

The Sens - just aren't playing this year!

Have you seen the new jerseys?

Jason ChartrandJayceChart Thursday, January 1, 2009 1:29:01 PM

Yes, I have seen the new jerseys. I was there when they released them. Unfortunately the jerseys did not improve their play sad

Hey did you here? - they actually won a game! 3-2 over the Oilers, it was beginning to look like they forgot how to play.

Thankfully there's the World Juniors in town.

Jason ChartrandJayceChart Tuesday, January 6, 2009 8:53:50 PM

haha yeah, unfortunately they have lost their last 2 sad

The World Juniors were AWESOME! I was in town but was not able to attend a game. themugs, did you go to any games?

Mugsthemugs Saturday, January 10, 2009 5:22:22 PM

You were in town? You should have given me a shout if you had a chance.

Hell yea I was at a couple of games. I was at the first Russia - Latvia game at the Civic Centre, surprised by the size of the crowd. Saw the U.S. - Russia game, U.S. - Canada game. And made sure I was one of the thousands at the gold medal game with Canada - Sweden.

I even dropped in on some of the Bell Capital cup games watching the little kids play.

Not even a transit strike was going to stop me.

That's sweet!!! I had a chance to go to the Canada vs US game but I declined due to lack of cash sad ... big mistake.

I'll be in town at the end of April so we should go have a beer or 12 smile

Mugsthemugs Friday, January 16, 2009 1:11:36 PM

You missed a great game by not going. As far as we all were concerned Canada was going to wipe the ice with the US.

April - I'm out of town from the 20th until May 15th. Work gets in the way some times. If anything changes - and it does constantly I'll be sure to let you know.
