Preparing for Gustav & Hanna

, , , ,

Today we're all shopping and preparing the best we can, for Hurricane Gustav and for Hanna, who is right behind him.
We're pulling our resources and have a plan ready to execute.

Our hearts truly go out to the people of New Orleans and surrounding coastal cities in his path. Hurricanes are extremely unpredictable, as we've experienced many times in the past, so the only way to really prepare is to have a plan and stick to it.
From now until November, our homes are open to those seeking shelter with little to no resources. And the only way to survive this and its long term effects is to accept we have no control over Mother Nature, nothing short-term that can be achieved, anyway....so, we'll go with the flow and remember that there is strength in numbers.

I still remember how everyone rallied around N.Y. after 911...people from all over the world. It was a time I don't think anyone will forget. It will stay in our hearts and minds, always!
In our town alone, 19 bus-loads traveled to the city as quickly as we could to: help those find shelter; drive them to nearby hospitals to look for their loved ones and a lot of the time was spent holding another in our arms and helping them see past that next minute and into another, then another. The devestation was so overwhelming.

Please take a moment to ponder this and maybe there is a way for you, too to become involved.

We're all in this thing together. This thing called life.

Please keep a good thought for our brothers and sisters everywhere who will be facing a most devestating future of events, in the days and weeks to come.

Peace...Jillee

We're all going to be severely affected. By next week, gas prices will possibly sky-rocket. We're on our way now to fill up our reserve tanks while the price here is still $3.52. Next week, that price will be just a memory.

That pic isn't of Gustav, just a google Sat pic. Gustav is a monster...some have reported it as being twice the size of Katrina.

REALLY...NOT looking forward to Hanna and all her friends she's called to visit our coastline. Too much activity out there!!!

Have a wonderful night and so good to be back on Opera!!!

I am so happy/relieved that New Orleans was not destroyed...again. They have really accomplished a lot in 3 years but still have a long way to go.

There is just SO much activity in the Atlantic...one after another, so this will be a long 3 months for us down here. Everyone, really, because besides the loss of human life which is of our greatest concern, this country coming to a halt due to rising beyond comprehension, gas prices, is a major concern, because the average middle class family would be unable to survive. So many are already struggling just to make it to work and put food on the table in the state of our country, at present.

Not to mention the crime rate, which has risen and would continue to, so in essence, we will ALL suffer from a catostrophic storm!
This is a nationwide problem/concern and it wouldn't hurt for folks to put their 'thinking caps' on and start to plan now for alternate means of travel, change in jobs/careers, any way to eliminate this economy from weakening any further. Sacrifice!!!!

Then, there will always be some/ a lot of people with the 'me-attitude' which says, "I'm doing OK, why should I worry about anyone else."

That's the attitude that has put this country where it is.

The only thing I can do is go where my heart leads me and continue to believe that there must be sacrifice for us to survive in this world, and do what I've always done and feel 'relief' that there's a lot more of this attitude in the hearts and minds of others. So I continue to be thankful, so grateful, to be able to be a part of this wonderful life...in such a wonderful country.

Thanks 'My Angeliki' for your thoughtful comments!

Love & Hugs...Jillee:heart: up happy star star star

Hey you! I'm more concerned about IKE since he's already packing winds of 145 and gusting at 175-180. He's a Cat 4 already and can go anywhere.

Worst case scenario is settling into the Gulf of Mexico where the water is warmest and the speed that monster can pick up, is frightening.

Let's hope Hanna doesn't hit the east coast. I still remember, as a little girl in Philadelphia, Hurricane 'Donna'. She blew our roof off.
My thoughts and prayers will be with everyone.

We, down here, go through this every year. We plan and really don't worry. But after so many years of little to no activity hitting the state of Florida, doing catostophic damage, that is, we're very concerned with the activity in the Atlantic. There seems to be one after another and coming fast.

Gotto go to work, although it's tempting to stay here awhile longer..hehehe!!

Hugs and Kisses, my friend...JilleeBean:heart: up star star star star star

lol
I love you back!
thanks!

I'm glad we're back on track and regarding 'Opera Ugly Guy', and of Opera's inability to correct these constant irritations, I had to switch browsers. I don't understand why this browser is always 'down', and it's down more than it's up.

I liked it when I first downloaded it and enjoyed the goodies, but the good ole days are gone!! I'm back to Mozilla Firefox.

Hey, I can still get over here and visit so it's all good!!!

Stay safe from the wind and rain and I hope Hanna goes away sooner than later.

Have you gotten anything from Hanna? Wind? I hear it's hitting the coast and in areas 70mph winds with higher gusts, but for the most part, she's moving fast and should be gone..JUST IN TIME for IKE to make his debut!!!scared no headbang

Take special care...Love you!heart heart heart star star happy

Hi from Belgium where there are no hurricanes.(except the Spa F1 GRAND-PRIX) I hope for the best for you all.
I would like to ask you a question, which could be silly to you,as I don't know anything about those hurricane probs. Is it not possible to build special bunkers, as for the army against atomic weapons, to shelter the folks? And is it not possible to build your houses inside the soil, with a lot of basement flats-with the electric lines under earth . The authorities are responsible for that, aren't they? To special events, special methods of building!
Have a nice weekend and may both monsters pass aside.

Angelikiellinidata Sunday, September 7, 2008 4:40:39 PM

Hi Jill, we felt the effects of Hanna. Fortunately it wasn't devastating as many had expected. It's been busy recently with Hurricane Ike now bearing down on the Texas coast. Stay safe, Jill. smile

Jill JilleeBean Sunday, September 14, 2008 3:39:56 PM

Yes, Amen! And thanks Amir for stopping over, nice to see you!!!yes happy

Jill JilleeBean Sunday, September 14, 2008 4:07:18 PM

Belgium is the place to be right now, then!! This seems to be the busiest/deadliest season we have seen in many years.

And your question is not silly at all, in fact, safe rooms and storm shelters, the sale of, has been on the rise. Not so much for the Hurricanes though, but the tornados. You can prepare and get out of harms way when you know a Hurricane is coming, but you have less than a minute after you hear the sound of a train, headed for your house, and that's what a tornado sounds like. I've been through many and blessed that I am still hear to talk about them:yikes: .

I've ran under the road into pipes, layed in ditches, even dove into a pool and stayed on the bottom for 2 minutes.....they don't last long, but the damage is unbelievable when they arrive.

So, yes, storm shelters are an excellent idea to stay safe. We have one and also have a safe room.

This season of storms has just begun, since we get our worst storms starting early September, so we have 3 months to go until we can let our guard down...but never completely.wait

Enjoying the beautiful weather today, sunny and not real hot!!

I hope your having a great weekend and yes...MONSTERS go away!!!!

Much peace!!up happy

Jill JilleeBean Sunday, September 14, 2008 9:53:20 PM

Hanna really made her rounds, eh? I'm happy to hear you were not in her 'flood' path.

It looks to me to be a very busy season. I continue to hope and pray that people everywhere take these storms seriously and 'get out of Dodge' when they know one is coming!

You stay safe too Marcus...And have a great day!!! Thanks!!!yes happy star
