O- Pierogi

Pierogi is a very traditional Polish dish eaten by everyone. Although often described as a stuffed dumpling, this speciality is more akin to Italian Ravioli. Indeed, it is thought that they were introduced to Polish cuisine about 500 years ago by Queen Bonna who was Italian
These little treasures are truly versatile. They can be served with soup, as a starter sprinkled with fried onion and bacon, as a main course either with a sauce or plain with sour cream although more often as an accompaniment to a main course and even as a dessert. Once boiled they can be served as they are, sautéed in butter or even deep fried and can be filled with practically anything you have to hand. The favourite fillings include seasoned pork or beef with onions, cottage cheese, sauerkraut, potatoes, cabbage and mushrooms.
My stay in Poland has been like pierogi filled by very good things! Wroclaw is a great city, full of parks, banks along the river, beautifull libraries, wonderfull churches and many others things, that make it much better then Porto for living and trainning. Being here has been like a break in my life and a gift full of very good things. Here I have time to take a deep breath, go out for trainning in the middle of the afternoon, go to the library, go out with friends at evening...I mean, here I don't feel the stressfull kind of life that I have in Porto. So nice!

ODRA - saturday trainning

Trainning here has been also very good. Poland is not the best place for orienteering, but definitely much better than in Portugal. It's great to take part in some competitions and trainnings with Slask Wroclaw. So nice and kind people that I really have to say DZIEKUJE BARDZO!!

Running between czech holes and mountains

Last saturday it was time to go a little to the south and visit czech republic for a small competition. I've never runned on such a map before. So many holes at the beggining and at the end, between climbing up and down a tipical czech moutain.
I did some small mistakes and one bad route choise as I lost some minutes running straight instead of running on track around (11-12).Althought I felt good as I was very focused and my brain didn't stop for a minute. About running speed was quite ok but it wasn't exactly the goal for this trainning. By the way I was 6tg between 25 runners.
My route choices:

Now is time to train in Wroclaw to improve my strenght and next weekend I'll run some small cometitions here in Poland.Do widzenia! =)

Czesc Wroclaw! =)

Last 25th september I arrived to Wroclaw, Venice of east europe and one of the most beautiful citys in Poland. That’s here where I’ll live the next six months of my life! I’m taking part of erasmus programme and I’ll do part of the fifth year of medicine here at Wroclaw.
First days at wroclaw were so Great! This a beautiful city: a lot of bridges, magnific cathedral, central square (Rinek, one of the biggest of Europe), enormous green áreas and many others things that make this city one of the best in Europe for those that want to take part on erasmus programm. Wroclaw university has seven Nobel prices (some of them from students others from teachers) and has a new and excelent hospital to learn and practice medicine.

The only thing that I don’t appreciate so much is the cold at winter, as I’m used to the warm weather in Portugal. But th experience of living on a cold country and trainning with cold could be nice
Today I joined Slask Wroclaw (orienteering club) for trainning and I enjoyed a lot! They are very nice and kind people  I hope I can improve my running and orienteering skills with them. Next Saturday we’ll run a small competition in czech republic…and I’m looking forward to this!
See you soon!
