Which company is not a monopoly: Microsoft or Google?

, , ,

Maybe you know pages like Bing (the new search engine of Microsoft), Yahoo! or Google and they all have one similar aspect: They are sites for searching on the Internet.

But at Winfuture.de you can read a special comment (I will translate as good as possible): "I hope that Microsoft is going to "verbingt" (a new word for going the wrong way...it's new to me too) themselves. I invoice everyone here to combat monopolists and to support honest companies, fighting against the censorship: Google 4 President!". Just think about it before going on reading.
The author tells us to combat a monopoly (Microsoft) and to support another monopoly: Google. Ok, they are monopolists in different areas, but Google is going to become a (more or less) complete monopoly (or they will destroy themselves before...IMO this is more realistic) and they don't support privacy. So, why should I support one monopoly I dislike just to destroy another monopoly I like a little bit more?
The big question is: Are there other opportunities? Partly yes! Ecosia for example, if you love the environment. This engine gets support by Bing and Yahoo! and they spend the income to companies like the WWF, just for saving the environment. So, in an indirect way, you go on supporting Bing. Or you choose Ixquick. I don't know much about this engine, but it is comparing the results of many other engines, so the results could be better. But, you are still supporting monopolists (indirect).
But in general it is senseless to discuss this topic, because everyone has an engine he/she prefers. For me, this is not Google. Before you are going to hate me (it sounds crazy, but there are people like that), because I use another engine than Google, just think about your advantages: The contest is going to make "your" Google even better, because they want to get more users or want the users to stay at their engine. Keep that in mind before you want other users to use "your" programs, "your" engine and/or "your" OS.

There is just one company that could make the coincidence even better: MicrosoftYou have the choice - Do you use it?
