Plutoed!!

The Monday, January 8, 2007 article headline in recognition of "plutoed" being named the 2006 Word of the Year reads: "Pluto's New Fame: Word of the Year"

I have relearned this word since last night. ABC News and Fox local news (Channel 2 in the Bay Area) mentioned this news. It is always exciting to me to recognize a new meaning of an English vocabulary. Pluto, of course, is not a new word. However, people have created a new usage for it since August 26, 2006, when Pluto was officially kicked out the list of planets in our solar system. Let's see how www.pseudodictionary.com explains "plutoed":

plutoed - To be unceremoniously relegated to a much lower position without adequate reason or explanation.

e.g., Company CEO Greg walked into office on Monday morning only to cruelly learn that he had been plutoed by the Board to Head of Office Administration.

pluto - (v.) to reclassify an object or person to a different group after it has been in another group for a significant period of time. (n.) some person or object so reclassified.

e.g., I was her steady for over a year, but then I got plutoed to "friend." | "You're not really young enough for this kind of rock climbing anymore, you know." "Yeah, just call me pluto."

I do not want to be "plutoed" so that I had better know what "plutoed" means. Pluto must be glad now if she had feelings. People on the Earth celebrate her by honoring her as a new verb. Cheers!! Pluto, the former 9th planet in our universe.
