A Superstitious Way to Change My Destiny

I know. It sounds very ridiculous, but I cannot help trying it out.

Ok, here is the story. I have been feeling not so much out-of-fortune but more unable to fulfill myself for a long long time. One night, my mom and I chatted on the phone. The conversation went to how my husband's and my home-based business had been doing. All of a sudden, my mom tipped me a very superstitious way to make a possible change to my miserable feelings. Feelings? Right. Feelings. We were all happy if we could feel less miserable. Changing how I feel about what I have is a good start. I should be able to think positively instead of wanting what I cannot achieve all the time. For example, my English is not as good as my Mandarin is, so that it is perfectly natural that I cannot found any job in US as good as I could get in Taiwan. Unfortunately, in reality, I cannot stop wanting to get a job as fulfilling as those jobs I got when I am in Taiwan. Changing how I feel becomes very crucial for now.

The steps of this superstition are:
1. Put $168 New Taiwanese coins (according to my mom, they must be coins but not bills) in a red envelop and find a couplet(mostly Chinese calligraphy on red papers)with a Chinese character "Spring"
2.Find a spot of the wall on the top of a window or door facing outside in the kitchen
3. Tape or stick the couplet-"Spring" upside down and cover the red envelop with $168 coins under the "Spring" on the spot when it is exact 12:00 am on January 15th of the lunar calendar
P.S. *Reveal a little tail of the red envelop uncovered
*The February 21th will be the January 15th of lunar calender this year. Look up dates on the lunar calendar

The amount of coins $168 "Yi-Liu-Ba" sounds like "Yi-Lu-Fa" in Mandarin which means making fortune all the way. "Dao" upside down sounds exactly the same as "Dao" arriving. Sticking an upside-down "Spring" indicates welcoming the spring arriving. The whole superstition must be something related with Feng-Shui, which I don't know much about. Well, I am not superstitious enough paying for a fortune teller but surely am superstitious enough to ask my cousin in Taipei mailing me some Taiwanese coins and still waiting for the mail. Stores in Oakland Chinatown don't sell any couplets with only one character "Spring" written. I ended up using Adobe PhotoShop to make my homemade "Spring". Will NT$168 in the red envelop&upside-down "Spring" help me feel better in the year of Brown Earth Rat? I guess I would never know even things might just get nicer for me and my loved ones.
