The Parade Outside of Our Window

My husband and I are lucky. Our rented apartment is in downtown Oakland where the annual holiday parade is always hosted. We didn't have to go out but only sticked our heads out of the window. There was the parade. I shot and edited this clip while the parade was still happening. How convenient!!

Most of marching participants are from local schools, non-profit organizations, radio stations, corporations... There usually are lots of Christmas theme songs played along when people are marching through, such as "Jingle Bells", " Santa Clause is Coming to Town"... My favorite part is to watch those young people with marching bands. I guess most of people can only play music instruments in marching bands from elementary- school to high-school ages, unless we joined the military or Scottish/Irish bands. That will be a whole different story.

Christmas is approaching, is this the preheating before Christmas? Those big inflatable doll looks very interesting.with different backgrounds, characters, much like the scene in a comedy. does each state have such an event in the United States?

Yes. The Christmas decorations, gift shopping promotions and charity fund drives are on-going now. I notice the preparation for Christmas celebration normally starts two weeks or so before Thanksgiving holiday. Some people think it is too early to promote Christmas though.

Good question. I really don't know too much about it. I will assume not only does every state host different Holiday season parade but also every bigger city. For example, San Jose, where the international well know Silicon Valley is located, hosted the annual holiday parade on December 3rd 2006. Oakland Holiday parade could be considered as a much smaller one. People don't refer those parades "Christmas" parades for respecting all differences of religions other than the Christian. "Annual Holiday" is commonly used.
