Do you like high effects to be done by cheep things? Me too. I´ve got a new child in that: my netbook needs to have a good look.
Well, Microsoft submitted, that the hardware of a netbook is still too weak to support aero design. That is a lie. If you upgrade to ultimate, you will have aero and blur effects on your screen. You know how to get the anytime upgrade key, don´t you1?
Next thing, I was looking for, was the animated desktop; and there are several ways to get that feature. Under Vista there is "dreamscene" running videofile-loops on the desktop, but that costs some cpu capacity... a cheaper way to have that nice effect is to set the screensaver at this position.
People using windows versions older than xp did know that trick:
You can start the screensaver in the "cmd" window. To get there press windows button + r and type cmd, enter - or surch "cmd" in the startmenue to run it.
Next thing is to locate the right folder, the saver is stored in. To do so,you need to command the following line:
cd\windows\system32
This will change directory (cd) to the folder, most of the screensavers are installed to. For example mystify, ribbons, and other windows screensaver can be found here.
So after pressing enter, the next line displays the choosen folder, the cmd wants to work with. If you now type any executible file into the line, that is part of the folder, you start the application. If you do with "mystify.scr", the screensaver will be started.
But it works still as a saver, what will disapear whenever you move the mouse or press a key.
To get it on the desktop, you need to integrate it "as a child of the screenwindow".
You need a freeware program to find out the keynumber of your desktop. Its called
spyplus. Run it and surch "window" by dropping the pointing tool into your desktop .
You will get a hexdecimal number, what needs to be converted to decimal (use your onboard calculator) and thats it!
So if you now type the name of your favourite screensaver and add "/p" and the decimal keynumber, you will have it running as an animated desktop. For example:
mystify.scr/p123456
The saver can be stopped with the taskmanager (rightclik on deskbar, choose taskmanager) under processes - easy to find - or with your next shot down.
For my netbook things are like that: Everytime I start Windows, there will be a different keynumber, so I really need "spyplus" - but at last I know what to look for:
after opening spyplus, i need to look at the bottom of the list to find the hex-code for "program manager progman" - that is the one!
Not every saver will be displayed! I´ve tried several, but its worth the work. My favourite one is a 3d rotating matrix called reloaded_pure.scr. This one does interact with the movement of the mouse - you see, there are a lot of things possible.
you can google all the stuff you read here - and I really mean ALL !!
´ve got trouble with embedding the video, so you can watch it here:
