Finally Growing a Pair
Wednesday, December 17, 2008 12:12:29 PM
Years ago, I abused myself with too much alcohol, smoking too much, not eating properly. Now, years later, I am suffering for that lack of good sense. Various problems have arisen as a result of my neglect.
I made lots of doctor's appointments and dentist appointments and now I am forced to take drugs on a regular basis.
Here is my problem: The drugs I take for pain give me a headache and I can't take drugs to stop the headache pain. So, I endure without complaining. (Can't you tell?)
Hmmmmmmm.
So if you have lots of doctor appointments or lots of dentist appointments, I feel your pain and I am thinking about you. But, mostly, if you are somewhere between 20 and 30, don't abuse yourself unless you are totally positive you will not live longer than 40. Like they say, "If I knew I would live this long, I would have taken better care of myself."
On the other hand, getting older is not for sissies.

That's for sure!
Karen, I'm sorry to hear you are experiencing pain. The 'vicious circle' of the headache-drugs-pain might be alleviated a little if you are able to keep by your desk/ bedside / area a bowl with a woollen flannel in cool water (not cold!). I learned a technique myself many years ago. I don't normally suffer from head pains but there was a time when the office where I worked was using overhead fluorescent tube lamps that were not a 'natural light' luminance. At that time my eyesight was starting to change and I got my first pair of reading glasses. To cut a long story shorter, I found that a cool compress on the forehead made a lot of difference and eased any strain-pain I was feeling. If you have heard about this simple method and have tried it but it doesn't work for you I apologize for telling you something that you already know.
I do hope there is a remedy around the corner for you. I'm reasonably certain that if you lived in my country our excellent free-at-point-of-supply National Health service would be able to come up with something that would help you. My comment in this context will not help you but I wanted to mention it as a sign of sympathy for you.
Your advice to the "youngsters' is sage and should be heeded by any one who reads your blog - unfortunately some folk think they will never age beyond 30.
Time always has the last word.
Warmest regards, as always

That is a method that I can try at home, to be sure. I rarely suffered from headaches before I started taking the medication and headache is one of the listed side-effects. It is supposed to diminish with time. I certainly hope so.
And because I didn't follow my own sage advice when I was younger, I am living with the consequences now. But, we make adjustments... like taking pain medicaiton every day.
Thanks so much for stopping by. It always means a lot to me when you visit my place.

I sympathize with you. Some days when I wake up with a headache I just know will last all day, I wonder how I will manage for at least another 30 years. Fortunately, I can take something for headaches but often the solution for me is to get moving. Hang in there
