Early Morning Writing

Over the weekend, I started the ending, but it wasn't working the way I had thought it should. I woke up at about 3:30 this morning and started thinking about what should happen at the end of the story, got up at 5:00 because I realized that sleep wasn't going to happen, and deleted almost 2000 words of dreck. Well, I don't actually delete anything, I move it to another file because occasionally, I can go back and grab peices of conversations or descriptions.
That doesn't happen too often becasuse I tend to write in a linear fashion. Chronologically. From the first day to the last. But, just in case, I don't delete.
What I am writing now, is the first, very rough and very unpolished draft. It is more like a very detailed outline because when I start the process of editing, the piece swells in size to nearly twice what it started out.
Editing is the fun part.
Right now, I have a reader... a woman who reads the story as I write it and acts as a cheerleader, of sorts. We talk about things going on in the story and I always listen to her suggestions. For me this is necessary because I get so wrapped up in the story and the characters that I loose perspective.
