Editing and School Fun

, ,

I have been working on editing my novel to get it ready to go to a publisher. It is tedious work and I am ready to start writing a NEW novel, rather than concentrating on the old one.

Ah, well.

In other news:

At work, it is my job to help students (at a local culinary school) find the money to go to school through government grants, student loans, private loans, etc. If a student is under 24, they have to have their parent's information available to get the money from the government.

On the phone with a prospective new student:

Student: I'm not eleibigle for grants?
Me: No. Your parents made too much money.
S: But, I can get student loans?
Me: Yes, but they won't cover all your tuition.
S: So what do I need?
Me: You need your parents to sign for a parent's loan. Unless they have bad credit, then you may be eligible for additional student loan money.
S: I think my parents have great credit.
Me: Well, you will have to use them to get a parent's loan.
S: But, they don't want to take out a loan for me.
Me: You will have to see about getting a private loan, then. I have a couple of suggestions.
S: Can I use my sister instead of my parents? She has terrible credit?

If only that were possible...

Holy Crap!
Been so busy in my own endeavors I forgot how much I enjoy your blog.
Congratulations on the completion of your novel!
I'll look for it on the shelves or maybe steal my wife's electronic contraption while she's asleep.
Will you publish electronically?

My mother has been a librarian at a local community college here for...(forever now) The stories she has told me! faint They don't pay her enough, I can say that honestly...she should get a separate check for emotional distress.

Good post, but a dreadful system (similar here) where adults have to rely on parental income to get funding/loans.

You may have read about what a great and winning party the British Columbia Olympics turned out to be. Security cost over a billion and one special retractable roof cost tax payers $400,250,000. No one can imagine what total costs were.

Our provincial leader, Gordon Campbell is squeezing everything for extra funds to reduce the red ink. In addition to laying off nurses, thirty-five locally, and adding a $6 recycling fee to everything electronic, he is closing smaller schools and sending students to larger schools. The teachers however, are being sent home.

Now those ARE grounds for emotional distress.

By the way. On a more serious note. My girl friend just stomped of in a huff, slamming the door very loudly.

When she came in, the room was dark. She asked. What are you doing in the dark?

I replied. Oh, just reading Hooters magazine.

In the dark? Impossible!

Not really. My sight is normal, but I like reading in the dark so I subscribe to their issues in braille.

It can see something different from our country.
Young people spend their parents money even they graduate from college.
