On Many Subjects

The historic triangle in Virginia proved to be the stomping ground for my vacation travels with my Mom and Dad and Digitaljon, The Divine Miss M and her Mom and Dad.

The whole gang trudged up and down historic avenues, taking pictures, oooing and ahhhhing.

Yes, most of us owned digital cameras, but everyone invariably forgot to bring them. So, the tourist photography was done with camera phones.

I believe this is the wave of the future.

Me: Ok, everyone line up so I can get a picture.
Stranger: But that is a phone, not a camera.
Me: I know.
S: You can't get a decent tourist shot with a camera phone.
Me: But, it's all I have with me.
S: You look utterly ridiculous.
Me: Hey, would you mind taking a photo of all of us? You just point the camera phone and press that button.
S: Certainly!
Whole Gang: CHEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSE!
S: Dammit. I only took a photo of my thumb.
Me: That's the danger of owning a camera phone.
S: Let's all try this again.
Whole Gang: CHEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSE!
S: Dammit. It is a photo of my forefinger, but you can just make out the top of someone's head right there.
Me: Once more try? Please?
S: All right, but I make no promises. Ready! Aim! FIRE!
Whole Gang: CHEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSE!
Me: How did that one turn out?
S: Well, no appendages, but I moved the camera and only got a photo of the tree tops.
Me: OK. Don't anyone move. Stranger, you stand over there and I will take the shot.
Whole Gang: CHEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSE!
S: But, now you have a stranger in your photo.
Me: I am going to PhotoShop you out and put me in.
S: Tourist Technology is wonderful.

Baby M is having fun in Virginia with her Mommy and her Daddy and the two cats and the dog. She is almost ready to walk and she chatters away all the time. She dances and she sings along with music. This reminds me of the song that ABBA sang, Thank You For the Music. Mother says I was a dancer before I could walk. Um Hum. She says I began to sing long before I could talk:sing:

I can't help it! The world is just so beautiful. I have to take pictures of it so I can shar it with all of you.

I went out to today because I was promised an airshow at 12:30. OK. That sounded fun. I waited and waited and then...

A single airplane did a few tricks... loop to loops, colored smoke, the whole gamut. And that was it. Ten minutes of what had to be the WORST airshow ever. A man sat beside me on the park bench.

Park Bench Man: Is that all there is to an airshow?
Me: I thought there would be more.
PBM: Apparently, not.
Me: I feel cheated. I feel like I didn't get my money's worth. I expected much much more than a single red airplane and a bit of colored smoke.
PBM: It didn't cost anything to watch, so you did get your money's worth.
Me: It cost nothing, so I got nothing?
PBM: Something like that.
Me: Look, there are a bunch of pelicans flying in formation.
PBM: They are really pretty.
ME: Better than the air show.
PBM: Maybe that was the airshow.
ME: I agree. A perfect airshow!

Fortunately, the day was gorgeous.

Who says babies are not yet cognizant of their environment?

The Divine Miss M loves to have her photo taken. All we have to do is to point the camera, count, OOOONNNNNNEEEEEEE... TTTTTTTWWWWWWWOOOOOOO like an enthusiastic Sesame Street Count and she breaks into a huge smile for the camera. I mean she poses for the camera amd then goes back to whatever she was doing before the photo op! She is so cute.

I am fully convinced that she is totally self aware and knows that she is the cutest baby ever. When I told her this, she looked at me and said, "Of course, Grammie K. I am cuter any other baby, especially the one in the mirror."

OK. Maybe she didn't actually say that, but one look is worth a million words. And that smile is worth about a million bucks.

Look at me! This is my first visit to Santa Claus. I thought he was at the North Pole, not Hawaii! I told Santa "I want soft things or fuzzy things or fun things or things that taste really good." I hope I get my wish.

Cute little Red Heart pajamas on my cute little granddaughter. I will finally get to meet her in person in January!
