Everyone is three people: Past, Present, and Future.
I discovered this universal truth when reflecting on my life recently...
The PresentKay is the one who does all of these crazy things, like going to sleep at 7:00 pm and then waking up at 1:00 am. Then, having nothing else to do, PresentKay starts surfing the net and discovering all of the very strange things available to buy (once the FutureKay is rich, of course). PresentKay then creates a lot of problems for FutureKay because all of a sudden it is 4:00 am and PresentKay needs to grab another nap because FutureKay has to be up at 6:00 am to get ready for work. So, in her haste to get back to sleep, PresentKay leaves empty cups of PastCoffee and PastSprite and empty packages of PastOreo Cookies and PastPotatoChips that are the result of PresentKay's binge snaking at 2:00 am when she realizes that PastKay ate dinner at around 4:00 pm and PresentKay is now starving. So, FutureKay has to clean up after PresentKay who has then transmorgrified into PastKay.
PresentKay will start working on her novel and forget that FutureKay has an appointment, so PresentKay, with a little urging from FutureKay, will set an alarm to remind PresentKay to get up from the keyboard and get to work. FutureKay can overcome most of PresentKay's habits.
PresentKay is the one who wrestles with PastKay and FutureKay on a daily basis. FutureKay is the one who has all the money and all the brains and is wildly beautiful and has a wonderful perfect life complete with a permanent home, lots of friends, and lots of lace and ruffles, cuddly grandchildren and the time to be truly creative, at last. PresentKay wants to become FutureKay, but PastKay gets in the way.
PastKay is one who overslept and missed an 8:00 am meeting. PastKay ate all of the pumpkin pie. PastKay is easily distracted. PastKay is forever putting aside important tasks to talk to friends, family, loved ones. PastKay isn't very organized. PastKay lost the credit card and must rely on PresentKay or FutureKay to find it. PastKay gets angry, hurt, sick, wounded and PresentKay has to deal with all of that. PastKay makes iffy life changing decisions and FurtureKay has to deal with those.
PresentKay and FutureKay don't like PastKay very much. Someday, maybe they will all work together.

Lovely post, I have to say though that if pastkay is the one who eats all the pumpkin pie, then pastkay will be my bestest friend and we'll go be as happy as the day is long in some nice bakery.
Maybe PresentKay and FutureKay will like Pastkay better if they realise that they're what they are because of what pastkay has done?

p.s. your hyslop is now wintering over. Has lost all leaves, but so far so good. I'm hoping it'll survive the winter here and start up again in the spring.
