What is this blog about?

, , , ...

When I opened up this blog (as a MyOpera group), my idea was to create a place where Kazakhstan locals and people from all over the world get into a conversation with each other. I had the impression that the perception of Kazakhstan throughout my friends and colleagues was fairly one-sided and negatively stamped. Its for sure that every country (if we can take it as a whole) has its positive and also its negative aspects. But definitely not everything is about politics. There is also the people, their life and their personal sights which should be taken account of. This blog is about the diversity which this country has to offer. You will see it is a multifarious country indeed, if you look at ethnicities, at religion, at nature or at various other aspects. Did you know, there is a large minority of Korean people in Kazakhstan? Or that there are famous artifacts of ancient Islamic architecture? Or that there have been settling people around present-day Almaty as soon as the 10th. century B.C.? Well, thats what I'm talking about ..

Places to go...in Almaty!

, , , ...

Marcus web page for Almaty travelers was a popular source of information. For several months it is off line now. Since his tips are still valid and might be helpful, I asked him to allow me to post them here. Please be aware that this was originally written in 2006, so things might have changed. Take it as an inspiration and check everything before going out.

"Kazakhstan group" became "My Kazakhstan"

, , , ...

As you may have noticed, the blog changed its name to "My Kazakhstan". I found the old name didn't fit really. My Kazakhstan wants to point to your personal view, your perspective, the perspective of those who share their impressions on this page.

CouchSurfing Kazakhstan group news feed added

, , , ...

At the 'Links' page you can now find a news feed which is an import from the Kazakhstan group at CouchSurfing (click here to visit). In this group travelers and local people from Kazakhstan get in contact or make announcements about relevant topics. If you want to meet people from all over the world, this is the right place.

Notice
It seems like the MyOpera RSS reader gets a bit confused with the feed so the newest 10 entries are not being displayed. I'm working on this.

Update
Now the RSS seems to work properly, but it disappears as I log out. No idea if other logged in readers can see it. Any Feedback?

New Photos added

, , ,

The Photos page has got 3 new albums! I browsed my photo library at home today and found there is something I could share with you. Astana is a bit 'snowy' since I was there in winter. If you got nice photos at summertime or maybe something from the old center of Akmola / Zelinograd, please let me know, I'm gonna add them too. I also would really appreciate a 'people' album, showing all the different people living in Kazakhstan. Or another album showing art and crafting from Kazakhstan's designers or artists. You come from ..lets say Karaganda or any other city in Kazakhstan? Send me your favorite photos!
