Maya, Swatches And Mia Material - Episode I

There is a new post related to this here : Blog Post

Maya in it's last versions is updating Hypershade Swatches whenever you move a slider or tweak an attribute on mia_material and mia_material_x. While it's usefull, it causes a lot of slowdowns, using the Hypershade is a pain. It's however possible to deactivate Hypershade Swatches Update if you want to get some comfort back, try this command in Script Editor :

renderThumbnailUpdate false;

I just filled a bug report about this the other day. The problem happend when all renders on our linux farm were pausing, and frames were taking hours to complete. It was a fluke that we noticed when all artists' hypershade windows were closed, render times were back on track. Since then we have added the renderThumbnailUpdate false command to all userprefs.mel files, so it's off by default.

Yeah, this problem is really a pain and nearlly prevent the use of hypershade if you don't put the Swatches Update Off :[ We had a lot of network slowdowns too, it would be interesting to see if it's related to that, like it was for you.

Marcus writes: Thanks for that one!! Almost exploded today... Problem is indeed related to rendering preview icons etc. Disabling that with your script is a great fix:)
