Digital Painting Stuff is done with Painter/Photoshop and 3DCG is Maya/XSI/ZBrush with Mental Ray and PRMan as renderers. Voilà :smile:

wow..i was using gimp and paint...boy was i off... can i download these things off the net or do i need to buy them in any way?

All those 3D and 2D Softwares dont really have hobbyist versions and are aimed for production work. In the free domain you have Blender wich is doing a really amazing stuff and have a wide user community.
