Logo and Picture/Alias Files

STICKY POST

Welcome!

Greetings,

As you may know, I've created quite a few logo and picture files to be used with Strat-O-Matic Baseball. Visitors who play other simulations are welcome to download anything they find interesting. The Strat-O-Matic community has certainly benefited from the generosity of other game communities. I am delighted if this site provides a way to reciprocate.

I have an interest in baseball cards. For that reason, my picture/alias files will emphasize the baseball cards available in a given year. My first year of collecting cards was 1961. (I sold them to my mother about 5 years later and she burned them. Who knew?) The picture/alias file for 1961 will emphasize cards that were available in 1961. For this reason, I'll tend to look back to find cards of players for a season. If I can't find a card by looking through previous years, then I'll look for the earliest available card.

I will take some liberties in reworking cards. For example, if/when I do the 1960 season, the cards for that season were printed with a horizontal format. I'll reformat the cards without distorting the primary photograph, enabling them to work with the vertical format used by the game.

Best wishes . . . and enjoy!

Ken Wenger

Jonathan's Face Packs

Jonathan K. has created a face pack for 1993. It show pictures taken from baseball cards. Many thanks for making this available to the community.

Miscellaneous Photo Sets

Cuban Baseball--Updated 6-25-09--These photos accompany the 2007-09 Cuban Baseball sets created by Len Durrant and Gary Simonds.
Cuban Player Pictures.zip

Negro Leagues--updated 10/11/09--This set includes the players featured in the Negro League set. Also included are any players that I could find from Fred Bobberts' 1930 Negro National League that is available on Gary Simonds' site, in addition to the teams created by Len Durrant. More players will be added as I find the pictures.
Note--If a picture is not showing as it should, check whether there is an unnecessary space at the end of the player's name on the roster. Also, some of these players have the same name as a player on an existing roster--you will need lines in the alias file to have these pictures display.

If you are using the Negro League set from Strat-O-Matic Game Company, you should add the following lines to your alias file.

Even More Negro League Players--uploaded 9-6-09--I can't think of any reason to download this set in terms of Strat-O-Matic Baseball. I don't think that adds any players who have ever been released in any official or homemade Negro League set. Many pictures are duplications of those in the above Negro League sets.

Japanese Players--updated 3-7-09--Check back, because I have a large set of pictures (modern players) that I haven't gotten around to sorting.

Logos

The nineteenth century logos are more generic. I had to use some liberties in developing them. Be assured, however, that there was some research and reason behind each of the logos. In some cases, it is the writing that appeared on the team's uniform as seen on period pictures or baseball cards.

Photo Packs and Alias Files (Pre-1940)

For player pictures: 1) Unzip the batters file. 2.) Copy the pictures of the batters. 3. Open the batters folder which is found in CDROMBB/Player/Batter. 4. Paste the PICTURES of the batters into this folder. Do not paste the FOLDER into the folder--the pictures must be copied and pasted. 5. Repeat this procedure for the pitchers.

For the alias file: 1. Copy the lines of the alias file. 2. Open the alias file found in CDROMBB/Player. 3. Copy the lines from my alias file into your alias file.
It is important to note that you may not have blank lines between the lines of an alias file. As is the case with most commands given to a computer, the machine is unforgiving--everything must be perfect.

There is a switch in the game that must be turned on in order for the pictures to appear. It is located in the setting for the ballpark.

1920--updated 11-4-09--The W series cards are in color, but some don't have very good pictures. I've included another card option for most of these players. Use Word Pad (or another text editor) to edit the alias file if you prefer a different card or picture.

Steve Braccini--Face Packs

Steve Braccini has created some season-specific face packs. I'll post them here as they become available--at least until I run out of space to do so. It should be noted that there are no alias files for Steve's face packs. One possible use of these files is to download the file for the season that you are playing. When you finish that season and begin another, download the file for the new season and overwrite the pictures from your past replay. In this way, your pictures will always correspond to your current replay.

Many thanks to Steve for making these files available to us.
