Integrated Leagues

This is baseball as it might have been--indeed should have been. The Negro League All-Stars are placed on the major league teams for which they might have appeared. I appreciate that the Strat-O-Matic Game Company has granted permission for me to make these seasons available to you.

The process used to create the teams was as follows.
1. The Negro League players who were active during a particular season were placed in the free agent pool. The seasons for each player are given in the Guide Book that accompanies the Negro League All-Stars.
2. The Draft-O-Matic feature was used to select which team would receive a particular player. The draft was done in reverse order of the teams' won/loss records. This means that the teams with worse records in that season received the highest picks.
3. The teams were restricted in terms of which players they could draft. When the Negro League set was released, Glenn Guzzo wrote an article featuring a chart showing the most likely major league teams on which the Negro League players might have played. Scott Simkus chose one American League and one National League city as the likely destination for each player. The teams could only draft the players who were likely to have played on that team. You might expect that this would distribute the talent across the league, but this is generally not the case. The players usually are assigned to a city associated with their careers in the Negro Leagues. New York, Chicago, and St. Louis, for example, receive more than their fair share of the players; Boston receives none.
4. The lineups were generated automatically. There were a few cases in which a Negro League All-Star was unable to crack the starting lineup for the team in one league, but was able to do so for the team in the other league. In such cases, the player was assigned to the suggested team in the other league.

IT MUST BE EMPHASIZED THAT IN ORDER TO USE THESE LEAGUES, YOU MUST OWN THE AUTHORIZATION FOR THE PARTICULAR SEASON AND FOR THE NEGRO LEAGUE SET. For example, in order to play with the 1911 season, you must own the authorization for the 1911 season and the Negro League set.

Check back because I'll add additional seasons in the future.

1911 Integrated Season.zip

1920 Integrated Season.zip

1924 Integrated Season.zip

Follow the steps below in order to use the leagues.
1. Download the file(s).
2. Unzip the file(s).
3. Copy the files (Control-C).
4. Open CDROMBB/ROSTERS and paste (Control-V) the files into that folder.

You might have to close the game and then reopen it before you will be able to use these leagues. There should be an American League Integrated season and a National League Integrated season for each league that you download.

I'm not planning on doing a picture pack for any of these seasons. If you download the photo pack that I've already done for the season and the photo pack for the Negro League All-Stars, then you should have everything you need for these seasons. Since adding the Negro League All-Stars represents a major change to how the season was actually played, there are no as-played options for the seasons. I think the schedule, however, is the as-played schedule--some people might have preferred a different schedule.

Ken,

Awesome! Similar to bolee41, I've ventured down this path or ones similar only to get bogged down. You've really helped things out with this work. Thanks!!

I am really looking forward to the 1934 edition. I can't say thank you often enough for all you do for the Strat community.
