Logo and Picture/Alias Files

Welcome!

Greetings,

As you may know, I've created quite a few logo and picture files to be used with Strat-O-Matic Baseball. Visitors who play other simulations are welcome to download anything they find interesting. The Strat-O-Matic community has certainly benefited from the generosity of other game communities. I am delighted if this site provides a way to reciprocate.

I have an interest in baseball cards. For that reason, my picture/alias files will emphasize the baseball cards available in a given year. My first year of collecting cards was 1961. (I sold them to my mother about 5 years later and she burned them. Who knew?) The picture/alias file for 1961 will emphasize cards that were available in 1961. For this reason, I'll tend to look back to find cards of players for a season. If I can't find a card by looking through previous years, then I'll look for the earliest available card.

I will take some liberties in reworking cards. For example, if/when I do the 1960 season, the cards for that season were printed with a horizontal format. I'll reformat the cards without distorting the primary photograph, enabling them to work with the vertical format used by the game.

Best wishes . . . and enjoy!

Ken Wenger

Ken,

Welcome to your new home! I look forward to visiting often and enjoying your many offerings. Currently, I'm replaying the 1934 season and LOVE the face pack you put together for that year.

I am a Diamond Mind customer who just bought Strat O Matic. So far I love it. Thanks for the player pics. However, I believe I followed the directions and put the pictures in the player folders but the game does not recognize them. Can anyone help me?? Please!

Thanks.

I too am very happy with what appears like a great source for photos. I echo however what Bill above comented on. Can anyone help? I downloaded everything and opened into the proper folders but I do not see them within the game anywhere.

Thanks.

Jeff

Jeff,

Thanks for your kind words. I'm not sure whether you are having trouble with the logos or with the pictures. The most important things to remember are that you must unzip the files and that you don't want to have a logo folder within the logo folder.

For logos: 1) Unzip the files. 2.) Copy the logos. 3.) Open the logo folder which is found in CDROMBB/Player/Team Logo. 4. Paste the logos in this folder.
Follow the same steps for League Logos, except use the League Logos folder.

For player pictures: 1) Unzip the batters file. 2.) Copy the pictures of the batters. 3. Open the batters folder which is found in CDROMBB/Player/Batter. 4. Paste the PICTURES of the batters into this folder. Do not paste the FOLDER into the folder--the pictures must be copied and pasted. 5. Repeat this procedure for the pitchers.

For the alias file: 1. Copy the lines of the alias file. 2. Open the alias file found in CDROMBB/Player. 3. Copy the lines from my alias file into your alias file.
It is important to note that you may not have blank lines between the lines of an alias file. As is the case with most commands given to a computer, the machine is unforgiving--everything must be perfect.

There is a switch in the game that must be turned on in order for the pictures to appear. It is located in the setting for the ballpark.

Ken - Thanks for the response. Well I got good news. The problem was I was not copying the alias file, so all is well. For the most part. One last issue though, and by the way my inquiry was in regards to player photos, for the life of me I cannot get the game to read the 61' Cardinals.

I have checked the alias file and everything looks in order. The line/sequence/etc, all looks fine but somehow it is not showing the Cardinals 1961.

Thanks again,

Jeff

Jeff,

I'm glad that you got things working!

The problem with the 1961 Cardinals is that Strat-O-Matic originally coded the team STL, rather than SLN. This coding was changed with Version 12. If you are using an earlier version, you will have to change the team coding in the 1961 alias file to STL.

I am using version 12. Would that also be the situation with the 70' Cards as well? As they also are not showing. I would not care a great deal, but I am die-hard Cardinal fan. Will give this a try Ken.

It did work for the 61 Cards Ken, but not for the 1970 Cardinals. Ideas? Just kind of goofy this only involves the Cardinals. Conspiracy? LOL

Hey Ken thanks for the ideas. Bill from an earlier post e-mailed me that if you go to the update team section of the game, once you have your team pulled up, it shows the three letter code. For the 1970 Cardinals it is STN, not STL or SLN. That took care of not seeing the 1970 Cardinals. Thanks Bill and Ken for all the help with this.

Ken:

Am now using the 1974 photos you compiled for, not surprisingly, my 1974 replay. Having a unique set of photos each year I replay adds a lot to the game. Although it may sound trite, I can't thank you enough for all your effort in putting these great sets together! It is greatly appreciated!

Ken,

I've been using your pictures for a while now, but I finally get to comment how great they are. They make the game richer and more fun. Thank you.

Is there any way I can help in the future? My free time is sporadic, but I live in the DC area, perhaps I can help you in some way?

Thank you,

deldal

I downloaded the 1981 pics some time ago and now I can't figure out exactly where they came from! No matter, as I just wanted to offer my thanks for all the time and effort expended in making such wonderful materials available. It really is greatly appreciated.

I have made several attempts in recent days to d/l various of the the pre 1970s player photos. They have all been unsuccessful as I get a "corrupted" message on trying to unzip.

Since there are so many posts here from happy downloaders I have to assume some problem on my end.

I am running Firefox 3.5.8 and successfully download all sorts of PDF, humongous (and otherwise) sized updates from the Windows upagrade site without any problems.

Please, not meaning to compain, extremely generous of you to provide these files.

Thanks for any suggestions...

Tony

Thanks for the pictures, we all really enjoy them. Moms do a number on baseball card collections. I remember those that I lost when she cleaned my room(There's an NYC sanitation worker with a big grin somewhere!). One that I kept was a Willie Mays in a Met uniform from 1972, but I tried my dad's ticket punch from the LIRR on it Duh!!

Thanks Ken, like it has been said before, you do a great job and save me and many people a lot of time and effort. Before i knew about this site i spent much time finding and re sizing pictures that were not as good as the ones i got here. Thanks again.
