How to set up your Iphone/Itouch to give you complete PC control

, , , ...

Here is a quick post to show you how I have set up my Ipod touch f/w 3.1.2 to give me complete control of my PC (OS vista home premium) this is not much more than a list of 5 apps available on the app store most of which have a coresponding app installed and running on your pc.
Turn on - Only works with Pc's hard wired to the router
Here I have used an app called NETAWAKE this is available for free on the app store. You will need to change a few pc settings here firstly enter the motherboards BIOS this can be done on boot up normaly its the DEL key then scroll down to power settings and enter look for a Wake-On-Lan or WOL setting and enable if you don't see a WOL setting it may be "Power On By PCI Devices" enable save and exit bios. Now go to your start window and right click on computer or my computer then properties then enter device manager you need to find your network card or cards then right click and go to properties there are two settings to change here the first is in power managment tick the "allow this device to wake the computer" box now go to the advanced tab scroll down the list till you find the wakeonlan from power of setting and enable save and reeboot your pc to allow the settings to take effect next you need to configure the app on your Idevice here its easy I did this manualy if it dose not recognise your pc don't fret all you need is your MAC address, you can find your mac address easy go to your control panel and open network and sharing manage network connections right click on the network you are using and go to properties at the top there is a box with the cards info in it if you hover your mouse over that it will pop a small window that shows your MAC address make a note of this you can now close all your config windows. On the app push add then manual entry under server name you can name your pc for easy recognition then enter your mac address were prompted and add to favorites and you are done.

Here I have used a app called AIR VIDEO its available on the app store for a cost of £1.79 this is acompanied with a pc/mac app available for free @ http://inmethod.com/air-video download and install on your pc/mac open the pc side app and add your watch folders this ONLY streams VIDEO and dose not support images or music files. It should now automaticly recognize your pc and the files added to your pc side app if not I found the quickest way to add your pc here is to add it maunaly, for this you will need the servers pin to find this go to the remote tab on the pc app and enable access from internet you will then be given a pin on the Idevice app open it and push the + button top left hand corner now enter server pin label for recognition and save.

VNC (vertual network computing) -
Here I have used an app called iTap VNC Client it is available on the app store for a cost of £6.99 and you will need to install one of the supported VNC servers on your PC I have opted for TightVNC as its the easiest to set up.There is realy no fuss here it is little more than unpacking TightVNC and install it on your PC setting a pasword. On your Idevice open ItapVNC click add manual bookmark label your PC or server and enter your PC's IP address were it states host then add your chosen pasword were it states credentials and turn on store credentials and save.To find out what your PC's IP address is by opening command prompt this can be done by typing /run command prompt in your search window in your start ups search bar once you have it open type from were the cursor is "ipconfig /all" find your IP address this is normaly the first IP address on that list and should look like this 192.168.#.##.
