Facebook: More Essential Than Cell Phones

, ,

Wow.

WOW...

I should just delete my account...

Can anybody else see what is wrong with using Facebook as the only way to invite people to parties? Does nobody realize that caring about somebody involves reaching them where THEY are most available, not just in the way that is easiest for you?

And does nobody realize that the inconvenience of running apps is just a way of keeping you logged in for a few extra hours so that you will look at their ads? Furthermore, does nobody realize that online communities are privately owned, and that changing them involves convincing the owners that they will lose money if they keep things the same? Ironically, asking for change is a sign that you don't want to leave, and thus won't stop looking at their ads. Why should the owners to change things if you want to stay anyways? Why should they stop bogging you down with pageviews when there is no way for you to pay for their services but to look at their ads?

What, did you think they created the site for you?

What a load of brats we all are!

It would also seem to be that the simple ordinary telephone has been forgotten.

I don't use facebook myself and never will; the people here are far nicer and more interesting.

Welcome to Opera I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I do prefer email, forums, and communities to the telephone. I don't however, prefer flashy, trendoid sites which every idiot expects me to rely on not due to its own merits, but because everybody is already there. Because, of course, everybody is as well-versed in communications and computers as they used to be in cars, right? Gawd, I wish people would evaluate things before falling in love with them.

I simply cannot understand the attraction of Facebook. Granted, keeping in touch is nice and all, but Facebook isn't a particularly good way to go about it. The Internet already had near-countless methods for people to meet, communicate and notify, all in a decentralized fashion. Facebook is just a way for you to give away your personal data to a third party.
