Holidays.

, , ,

Yeaaaaaaaaaah. Hooooolidays!!!! Oh, wait. That post has already been written.

Writer's Block. I'd like to blame that, but actually I'm averse to ANY thinking during the holidays. Instead, I shall regale you all with my holiday escapades.

Movies Seen:

One Flew over the Cuckoo's nest (Pretty good. Great ending)
Dog Day Afternoon (A Classic. Al Pacino is brilliant. "Attica, Attica"!!!!)
Monster House (An average Animated film)
Next (Hopeless. Bad. Rubbish. Crap. Its a typical Nic Cage fare)
The Inside Man (Loved it. Spike Lee, Clive Owen, Denzel Washington)
Blades Of Glory (outrageously funny)
Anchorman (Silly. Rarely funny)

Music :

Thin Lizzy - The best of
Aerosmith - Pandora's Box
Bon Jovi - Crossroads
Steppenwolf - The collection
Doobie Brothers - Best of the Doobies 1 and 2

I'd recommend all of the above.

Books :

Children Of Men - P.D James (Good Premise like 1984, but loses track towards the end, unlike 1984)
100 Years of Solitude - Gabriel Garcia Marquez (An absolute Classic. A must read)
The Awakening - Kate Chopin (Archaic. Boring. Got it because it was there in the Everman's Library)
Misery - Stephen King (Good book. Glad there are no aliens, demonic possession, rabid dogs in this book, unlike the other King books)
Day of the Jackal - Frederick Forsyth (A classic. Very entertaining)

Currently reading 'Nostromo' - Joseph Conrad. A great Read.

And, I've been spending a lot of time at cracked.com . Hilarious.

The Bat Battle
Retarted Gas Saving Schemes

Potter, no more

At last I've been able to pull myself up and type the post. Got a lot to write especially about the
Mumbai trip. But first, I've got to write about the 7th Book, which I managed to finish after about 10 hours of reading.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Lots of Spoilers ahead.

It's good, but could've been better. Delete the last chapter (19 yrs later), cut down the melodrama. But whatever the criticism, there's no denying the fact that JK Rowling is a genius. She's written the outline of the whole story (Full 7 books to unravel it), before she even got the first book published (and she's been rejected publication a lot of times).

She has developed Snape's and Dumbledore's (gay?) characters really well as flawed heroes. She developed the story well over the seven books, revealing little, where every small detail which were insignificant in the previous books, but become very important in the story.

But, Rowling has stuck to stereotypes, which we've seen in other books and movies. The villain (Voldermort) is pure evil (like Saruman in LOTR, or the bad guy in gangster movies who'll kill anyone in sight just because he feels like it or the Lady in Chronicles of Narnia). Harry, Hermoine and Ron are too goody-good, totally lame characters, with Harry being developed as a crazy schizophrenic (screams at Lupin for no reason, and then being nice to Dumbledore in the last scene after he found out that Dumby's trying to get him killed via Voldermort and may have killed his own sister).

According to my brother (who's a crazy potter maniac), this is the best potter book and the Prince's Tale is the best chapter. And according to my friend (just a reader) this is the worst book resembling more like a soap opera, and the mixed reviews go on and on. But I think that it's a fair end to the series.

I'm tired. Probably will write about the trip in the next post.
