HA NOI — Ha Noi-based young rapper Kim’s song, Choi Het Minh (Enjoy Your Life and Do Your Best) has been selected as the official song of the Asian Cup 2007 football tournament, which kicked off last weekend in Thailand.
"The song’s message is to try your best to face challenges and enjoy life," said the 16-year-old Kim, whose real name is Quach Cam Le. "I also want to share my thoughts with other Vietnamese and foreign players who’ve overcome obstacles to reach success."
Kim hopes that Choi Het Minh, which will be performed in both Vietnamese and English, will be well received by Asian Cup players and music fans.
Kim began her hip-hop and R&B music career when she was 13. Two years later, she became the youngest rapper in the local music market and has performed in many big music programmes and TV shows in Ha Noi and HCM City.
Last year, Kim’s first album, Vol1 Kim, featuring rap and R&B songs was popular with local youth. She also performed in My Linh Tour 2006, the year’s best live show staged by pop star My Linh and her professional staff, including young composers Anh Quan and Huy Tuan.
"My love for music encourages me to live, study and play well," said Kim, adding that she can bring faith, hope and energy to people by composing the songs herself.
Kim said she learned to create new rap and R&B songs in Vietnamese instead of English. "I feel happy composing songs for my peers. No one knows better what songs teenagers want to hear than I do," she said.
Kim has signed a three-year exclusive contract with the music and entertainment company Minh Nam.
"Some people think I’m too young to follow my dreams. But I think no one is too young or too old to do anything in life."
Kim is preparing for her second album Vol2.Kim featuring rap in Vietnamese. "I will try my best to make this kind of music popular among youth."
