Washington chuyển mùa một cách lạ thường. Cảm giác của hạ sớm về.
Mở hé cửa trông ra ngoài đường. Phòng giặt đồ ngộp ngạt toàn hơi nóng của cái máy sấy. Thấy sương mù khắp, lấp cái vàng của đèn, lấp đi cái màu rực mờ ảo từ trăng và sao. Tôi hít vào thu đi gần hết cái mùi cuối cùng của năm nay cho nhẹ nhàng...
Từ hồi nào giờ, cuộc sống thay đổi nhanh. Quen rồi! Ít ra đời sống sinh hoạt ở Washington cũng đào được từ tôi nhiều đức tính khá khẩm mà tôi từ lâu không hẳn nghĩ mình sẽ có. Chóng vánh, vòng quanh. Tôi tìm lấy tôi.
Hạnh phúc không hẳn là đây. Mà nó đã xuất phát từ đây. Tôi nghĩ về cái choáng ngợp mà ngày hôm nay đang vẽ ra đằng trước. Tuổi đang lớn làm cho tôi miên man nhiều lắm. Bởi tôi tham lam kiếm tìm mọi thành phần sắp đặt nên cuộc đời này: yêu thương, và những nhân tố làm nên yêu thương.
Sống trên đời là lập nên một băng phim dài nối tiếp bởi các phòng khác nhau. Ngay cả không gian rộng cũng là một căn phòng lớn. Những ai trong căn phòng sẽ quyết định cùng ta đó là hạnh phúc hay đau và buồn. Xem ra cách duy nhất để điều khiển mọi thứ là làm sao khi ta bước vào căn phòng tiếp theo, ta đem gọn hành trang vào cái túi đặt trên ngực áo trái, và tin tưởng mình vẫn còn sống tốt tới ngày mai.
Quả tim của tôi đủ màu. Nó đã từng xám, và tráng đen. Nhưng tôi không cấm ai đó sơn lên nhiều màu khác. Thế là đã có người cầm cọ và vẽ lên tình yêu, thương!
