Testing Windows 7 RC1 [Build 7100] [Part1]

, , , , ,

Oh never released this article...
it may be outdated ... so please dont harm me wink

This is my test of the new Windows 7 RC1 preview.

So here my system specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3,20 Ghz
Mainboard P5W DH Deluxe
3 GB Corsair RAM
Radeon X1950 Pro 512 MB (PCI)
2 x Samsung 150 GB @ Raid0 (300GB)

So lets start I downloaded the new Version of W7 here (you'll need a Windows Live account to get a Serialkey).

The .iso image is uncompresed and around 3,18 GB heavy.

Next step I burned it on a 4,7 GB DVD+R and rebooted my PC with prime boot on CD/DVD.

So here we go with the real install "Press any key to boot from CD/DVD" roger that!
The Windows Installation is now preparing the system and loads some files for the installation.

But Stop! I got my first BSOD (BSOD = Blue Screen of Death)...
I googled for the prob and it seems that the BSOD is connected with some overclocking problems.
So I restared, opened the BIOS set everything to deault and gave it another try!

In the next run everything seems to be fine. The installation process is fast and easy to understand.
Good to know, I dont need to install a driver for my raid coalition.
In Windows XP I had to creat my own copy to include the raid driver.

So after you configured your User Account and Adminstrator password, you'll get to the new W7 Desktop.
The first Eyecatcher is the new taskbar. The structure is similar to the linux KDE version.
The new Taskabr is in standard configuration much heigher than the XP or Vista taskbar.
When you press the Windows Orb you'll get the same menu as in Vista.
The new tabs of the Windows Taskbar has been redesigned and show now only the icon of the running programm.
When you run multiple instances of one programm you'll see a small border on the right of the programm tab.
If you click on it a small "Aero Peekk" window will open that show your current instances of the programm.
Aero Peek is the new live desktop preview system that show you fast previews of your programms without switching between windows or programms.
Opera useres know these function from their browser as "Tab Preview".
Copy processes are now shown in the icon as a green background bar which is very convenient.
All in all the new taskbar will introduce a lot of improvements for W7 and will help in a better workflow.

Part 2 coming soon
