Kick out the typical salesman that offers any particular course without a thorough investigation to better understand your current abilities and experience level. They should be able to select from a large product range so they can solve your training issues. An important point to note is that, if you've had any relevant qualifications that are related, then you will often be able to pick-up at a different starting-point to a student who's starting from scratch. Working through a foundation program first will sometimes be the most effective way to get into your IT programme, but really depends on your level of familiarity with computers.

* Constant driving back and forth from the centre - often very long trips.
* For those of us that work, then Mon-Fri classes cause problems at work. You could be having to deal with at least 2, if not 3 days in a row.
* Lost holiday days - many working people only get 4 weeks annual leave. If you use up half of that with training workshops, you haven't got a great deal of holiday time remaining for the family as a whole.
* In a situation where running costs are very high, most companies really push the size of the class - which isn't ideal (increasing the ratio of students to teachers).
* You may prefer to move at a pace that is different to the other class members. Sometimes this causes a lot of tension amongst the class.
* Let us not forget the extra financial outlay of travelling or over-night bed and breakfast either. Often, this will cost a lot of money - from hundreds to thousands. Do the maths yourself - it'll shock and surprise you.
* Study privacy can be very important to many attendees. Why would you want to lose any lift up the ladder, salary hikes or accomplishment at work while you're training. If your employer knows you're putting yourself through training in another sector, how will they regard you?
* Who amongst us hasn't avoided putting our hand's up, because we wanted to maintain the illusion that we did, in fact, understand?
* If you occasionally work elsewhere in the country for several days at a time, imagine the increased difficulty in getting to the needed classes, when time is at a premium.
It obviously makes much more sense to be trained at a time that's convenient for you - not the school - and utilise virtual lab environments with videos of your instructors. You can study at home on your PC or out in the garden on your laptop. If you've got questions, then make use of the 24x7 support (that should've been packaged with any technical type of training.) Note-taking is gone forever - all the lessons are prepared and laid out for you - ready to go. Anything you want to do over, it's immediately available. While this won't avoid each and every issue, it surely makes things easier, simpler and less stressful. And you've reduced hassle, costs and travel.
