Blog Anniversary

I had retinal surgery on the back of my left eyeball Monday. Strange sensation. Half my face was totally numb and I had no sensation of scalpel cutting nor suturing, etc. They gave me a local so that I was conscious and talked to them all the while they were working on me, but I just didn't give a damn. Very eerie occasion. Took about 45 min. I guess. They got me up from the OR table, rolled me into the recovery room in wheel chair. I sat there and drank a cup of coffee they gave me, and went home about 15 minutes later.
I have to sleep with a shield taped over my eye for about a week. I'm using several different eye drops, varying dosages, every day for the next week (antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, atropine for keeping my eye dilated. Not sure why he wants that.)
My vision is very blurred in my left eye and Dr. Bochow says it may be months, up to a year, before the blurriness leaves completely---if it ever does. Only time will tell. There is no real pain, it just itches unbearably sometimes, and sometimes it feels very dry and scratchy. Just hope I end up with some vision in that left eye.
But the nutty thing is.....I hurt my foot Saturday. My car broke as I was trying to back out of my parking space. I couldn't turn the steering wheel. I managed it get it back into the parking space, then decided to check my emergency brake and see if I had inadvertently set it. Well, I checked it alright. There's a pedal on the floorboard that has to be pushed down all the way to set the emergency brakes. You have to mash it again to realease the brake.
Well, I was sitting at an angle. When I mashed down on the brake, apparently I turned my foot, or twisted it and then pressed on the brake. Since Saturday, my foot has been bruised, swollen, and I haven't been able to put my weight on it. I didn't go to the emergency room Sat. or Sunday because I had no transportation (car broke, remember?) And, it takes hours and hours to be seen in the ER on weekends. I had surgery Monday on the eye and didn't feel like going to the doctor. Same for follow up visit to Dr.Bochow yesterday.
I waited till today. Let my home health nurse look at it. She immediately got to work and had me go to an Urgent Care Clinic near here. They took Xrays of my foot, and guess what? I broke three metatarsal bones in my left foot. Can you believe that? I felt pretty sure I had cracked A bone, but not broken THREE. Sheesh! They put me in a surgical sandal thingey and gave me the name and number of an orthopedic surgeon to go see. I'll call him tomorrow and make an appointment. Probably end up having to have a cast on my foot for weeks.
Wouldn't you love to have my life as lived for the past year? Gee whiz. Rats! I always have to do things differently, even when I don't try. I've been taking hydrocodone pain pills as needed, and hobbling around here. Looks like I'll be doing that for awhile. I have osteoporosis, which made the bones brittle and made them break so easily---but, shoot, mashing down on an emergency brake pedal? As John Stossel says, "Give me a break!" but not the one I got.

Well, I sort of missed my own blog anniversary. I joined OC in January of 2009; however, I didn't make my first post till Feb. 9, 2009. http://my.opera.com/L2D2/blog/2009/02/10/joke . I had to feel my way around for a bit before I got up enough courage to try a post. I had never blogged before and had no idea what I was doing. I had to get help from a few friends I had made from the time I joined, till I made that first post. I had a lot of help from Carol (Dacotah). She gave me several how tos as I knew diddly squat about CSS and html.
Then, after I discovered Suntana's blog designs for a couple of those early friends, I immediately made plans in my mind to confiscate him as my blog designer. And my strategy worked. All it took was slatherings of butter.
And as you know, after that first post, the rest is history. I've been very happy with the OC and I want to thank all my friends for your help and participation in keeping me here for 3 years so far.

Okay Okay, so I guess it was an even trade, a Blog Design in exchange for a Barrel of Butter. http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/Yahoo.gif - http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/Drool.gif -

Your situation is pretty similar to mine. I joined MyOpera sometime in June 2008, but I didn't actually unleash my 1st Post until July 31st.
I think I probably even actually clicked to activate my Blog's existence BEFORE that July 31st. Cuz as I've mentioned before, at that point, it was NOT the intent for the Blog to be mine. I was conducting some Reconn Fact-finding to see if it would suit my niece's needs as she was looking for a Blog Service.
When she didn't want it, I took it over and released my 1st Post on July 31st. So, THAT is the date that I consider my Blog's Anniversary ... although I was on MyOpera a little over a month before then and probably had my Blog activated before that date as well.
So, in my infinite wisdom, I think you should consider / declare February 9th your Blog's Anniversary.

It reminds me of a tv advert from about ten or more year ago. This 'Mom' character starts off saying,
"Blogging!",
"It's my space..." (blah. Blah fishpaste)
I could never remember what product they were advertising though as it had absolutely nothing to do with blogging!
(I think it may have been butter or milk or something as she is busy getting something out of the refrigerator as she says this.
Congrats and happy Bloggerversary!

Ahhh, how times change.
I see in our exchange there that I called you "Linda" and you called me "Carlos."

And it is amazing how much you have learned yourself about designing blogs since those early days. I like to think that I had a lot to do with making you stretch yourself to greater heights. http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/BigGrin2.gif -

My third post was an MMS photo fifteen hours later!
Then, half and hour later, I finally made what could be my first true blog post!
Of course, that was a rant against my mobile service provider's poor customer service.
And even I had to ask what a blog was in the beginning!

BTW. I got a letter from my cable company today telling me that they are now limiting broadband use for internet, and that my limit is 150 GB. That bites big time. They are going the way of the rest of the world and going to make us pay for usage over our limit. That is a new thing here. Before I know it, they'll go up on rates for overage, while lowering the limit for basic usage. I see it coming already.

There have been times when I wished that I actually had had a mastectomy because of the fact that the type of breast cancer I had is very agressive, and is DNA related and feeds on estrogen. Because of that factor, I am at high risk to have the breast cancer return, but it may show up anywhere in my body, not necessarily the breast, something I didn't know before getting sick. If it should show up in my colon or stomach, etc., it will still be breast cancer, which fact is a bit hard for me to wrap my brain around.
