Fast facts
-
At the movies I like to see:Cheap prices. Most movies aren’t worth the price of admission these days. For that matter, most movies wouldn’t worth the price of admission even if they were free.
-
Last movie seen:Thomas Crown Affair. The Pierce Brosnan remake. A great movie.
-
Music I listen to:Smooth jazz and classic country. Actually, I listen to a wide variety of music, although very little newer music (and I think in many cases the term ‘music’ is a very generous description when applied to much of the newer stuff).
-
Best album right now:Rick Nelson In Concert (The Troubadour, 1969). Possibly one of the best albums ever—certainly one of the best live albums ever released.
-
Favorite author:James Herriot, Barrett Tillman. I don’t necessarily have a specific favorite author. In the past, I’ve focused my reading on WWII non-fiction but over the last several years I have been attempting to widen the range of my reading.
-
Last book read:The Complete Calvin and Hobbes. Calling this “The Complete” is a bit in error as there is one known strip which is not included and has never been reprinted.
-
Best game right now:Trying to keep Windows from trashing itself. Actually, not a game as much as it is an obsession and act of desperation.
-
Favorite sports team:Seattle Mariners, with the S.F. Giants as my second choice. But I'm not really a huge sports fan.
-
I'm passionate about:Apathy. Think about it...
-
I wish I could:“Retire” from a regular job and work for myself. Okay, I admit it, this is just a rerun of the 1 million dollar question.
-
Favorite travel destination:Travel? Who can afford to travel? If I could, I would like to visit Disneyland—and take as many of my kids and grandkids as possible—and the New England area.
-
On my vacation I..:Work on projects I haven't had time to get accomplished at other times.
-
If I won 1 million dollars, I would:Quit my job, buy a house in Alaska, and start working full-time at the home-based business my wife and I want to start. My wife and I are working on starting a home-based business. Nothing like the traditional 'home-based' businesses.
-
If I were a super hero I would:Make all liberals live their “Utopian dream”, no matter how much they cried and screamed to get out once they were there. There are enough socialist/workers ‘paradises’ in the world for them to live in that we don't need the U.S. turned into one.
-
Fashion I rather not see again:Anything from the disco era.
-
My worst purchase ever:Getting hooked into PC's using Microsoft operating systems instead of MacIntoshes. I hope to correct this very soon.
-
I want my coffee..:Strong. Very strong. Very, very, very, very strong. In fact, espresso straight.
-
Food I like:Hamburgers, pizza, meatloaf, Spam or Deviled Ham sandwiches. I like simple food. I’ve tried to ‘get into’ things like steak and fancy restaurant stuff but it just doesn’t work for me. I like simply, tasty food.
-
I don't like:Things that don’t work like they should. Windows would be at the top of that list, with ‘customer service’ following as a close second.
-
Software I use:Open Source, freeware and shareware, whenever possible. Open Office (ok, technically OpenOffice.org), Opera and Firefox currently lead the list.
-
Hardware I use:Dell computers (although I don't dislike their equipment, I can’t say a whole lot good about Dell's support)., HP printer, Canon and Kodak cameras, Apple iPods, Blackberry Bold.
-
I discovered My Opera from:Probably an article on CNet or Ziff-Net, years ago.
Why I choose the Opera browser
Security, convenience, stability and performance.
