Museum of Applied Arts, Christmas market has very long tradition and the artists are carefully selected to maintain the quality of the event. If you are into some Christmas shopping on a different level, make sure you visit
Budapest Museum of Applied Arts on December 7-8-9, from 10am - 6pm.
Museum is located on
Üllői út 33-37, and even if you are new in the city, I assure you, you are not going to spend time looking for it. It is one of the most beautiful buildings in Budapest. Building itself is a “piece of jewellery”, life-work of
Ödön Lechner.
The dome - decorated with famous
Zsolnay ceramics - catches the eyes of the visitors from afar, while the hall of the main entrance gate with its fabulous decoration invites them inside.
Hope to see you there,
George.

If you are visiting Budapest between December 15. - 16. Saturday - Sunday, 10.00 - 18.00, make sure you visit Christmas WAMP (Hungarian design market).
Organized by four very talented women (artists themselves) this market is gaining reputation of being one of the city’s most serious events for art lovers. A, chance to meet and chat in the company of artists and to buy art directly with no “middle man” involved. WAMP is definitely not “yet another boring sale event”. Beside nice works exhibited, it’s also some kind of performance itself with very pleasant atmosphere. DJ’s are playing nice tunes and towards the end of the show, they are followed by live bands, performance or fashion show.
WAMP started couple years ago and by now it has certainly become a part of Budapest tradition . WAMP is organized once a month but not necessarily at same place or time so the best way to find about details is to visit their website at
www.wamp.hu.
There is English version of the site and possibility to see some artwork inside web gallery if you log in. I will be there with new
“Nautilus” collection. Hope to see you at WAMP.

La Vallie jewellery got website online. I’ve tried to keep it as simple as possible but there’s going to be much more work to come, to make it look and feel better. I was also thinking of adding PayPal account to make it easier for customers to purchase my work. What’s your opinion about their service?

Just came back from
“Blickfang”, Austria’s largest design trade show for fashion, jewelry and furnishings. Last year it attracted almost 12,000 enthusiasts to the
MAK (Museum of Applied Arts), and it’s the grand finale of the Vienna Design Weeks, with some 140 designers exhibiting their latest creations.
It was quite an experience!

I’ve met many interesting people, made new friends and had a chance to show my new
“Nautilus” collection to an audience with a very sharp taste.
I have to say it was a great challenge to be next to so many talented artists, but as the show progressed, I felt encouraged by people showing genuine interest in my work.
Vienna is very charming and colorful city where old meets new in very unpredictable way. Unfortunately there was not much time left for sightseeing, but I managed to have my real mélange at coolest café in Vienna,
“Café Hawelka”.

Jules Verne’s captain Nemo and mysterious submarine called “Nautilus”.

It is pleasure and fun to combine different materials in jewelry. My favorites are plexi and wood. I tend to use high quality plexi and rare, hard woods like ebony and palisander.
Since use of flame in connecting these materials is out of the question, I use hand-made screws to connect them. Not easy to make but the result is satisfying.

Playing with silver is true pleasure, precious but still affordable metal that can boost your imagination.

Design is a big part of our world. We all design our “little worlds” day by day, from small gardens to the big cities. End results vary in their beauty, value, message, from person to person, from society to society. One thing is certain, design that surrounds us, is our own picture, our inner beauty or/and visual message of what we are striving to become.
Here is my little world of jewelry design in which I spend most of the time, besides surfing the net with the best designed browser in the world, thanks Opera!
