Happy May Day!

At my elementary school, each May Day the fifth graders put on a presentation of dances and music, complete with a May Pole dance to end the celebration. This was back in the mid-1970s. I doubt that the school still has that celebration, but who knows. It was fun to learn the dances and the music. The May Pole dance was always fun to watch and participate in. How many of you went to a school that celebrated May Day?

Near the community where I now live in Switzerland, Beltane is celebrated by all, albeit in a rather unpagan fashion. The mayor, a woman, dresses up as a "hexe" (German for witch, no doubt from hexagram) with friends and they create a huge bonfire at dark. The children of the community come and the withches try to scare them, tell stories, and the like. Definetely not what Beltane is about, but it's interesting to see that there are still remanants of the old/wise ways here.
I wish you a Happy May Day/Beltane/Walpurgis - as it's called here Switzerland
Blessed Be
Sarah
