Opera Mini For Windows

this is tested on 32bit editions of Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 only

Follow this tutorial to use Opera Mini on Windows.

Installation

  1. Install the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) for Windows (In the default installation path).
  2. Download and install Opera Mini For Windows (In the default installation path) ignoring the "This program might not have installed correctly" warning that might appear on Windows Vista or Windows 7.
  3. [optional] Copy the Opera Mini shortcut (which would be found in the installation directory) into your desktop.
  4. Run Opera Mini for the first time using the shortcut, then close it.
  5. Download this file config2.xml, then copy and replace it into
    %USERPROFILE%\.microemulator
    which would typically be:
    • On Windows XP
      C:\Documents and Settings\<user-name>\.microemulator
    • On Windows Vista/7
      C:\Users\<user-name>\.microemulator
Note: This installer doesn't necessarily contain the latest versions of MicroEmulator and/or Opera Mini. Versions currently included are: 2.0.3 and 4.2.13337-advanced-en respectively.

Text Input

Click the text field, enter the text you want, then use F1 for “Abort” and F2 for “OK” because the on-screen OK and Cancel may not work. I heard that this is fixed in the beta of the next version of MicroEmulator.

Proxy

You can configure Opera Mini For Windows to connect through a proxy server, downloading the alternative "config2.xml" file and changing the following lines:
<system-property name="http.proxyHost" value="webcache.mydomain.com"></system-property>
<system-property name="http.proxyPort" value="8080"></system-property>
So that "webcache.mydomain.com" would be replaced by your desired HTTP Proxy, and "8080" would be replaced by its corresponding port. Now re-do steps 4 and 5.

Resizing the program window

Open the program and click options, select device, then add. Navigate to the directory where Opera Mini For Windows is installed, then enter the devices directory. Select the "microemu-device-resizable.jar" device file, then click open. Set the newly selected device as the default. Click OK to proceed. Now you can maximize the program window or click the re-size button in the lower right-hand corner of the interface and enter your desired dimensions, such as the common 800x600 or 1024x768.

Uninstallation

You can uninstall Opera Mini For Windows by deleting the installation directory (C:\Program File\Opera Mini by default) and the desktop shortcut if any, and deleting the directory %USERPROFILE%\.microemulator (in case you wanted to remove program settings)
