5 things I want to see in Opera

, , ,

Okay, it looks like I've been tagged by Opera Watch.

Here are the 5 things I'd like to see in Opera:

(Disclaimer: Just because I work for Opera does not necessarily mean that Opera is working on any of these, or has any immediate or long-term plans to do so. These are just some of the things I'd personally like to see. There are many other important things we ought to do that I'm not mentioning here because they've been discussed so often in other places, and we are well aware of them.)

1. RSS in a side panel of its own, independent of Opera's mail client. I use M2, Opera's revolutionary e-mail client, so it's no hassle for me to read RSS feeds in the same side panel. However, I want other people to be able to view their RSS feeds in a side panel (which is really nice and convenient) without having to use M2 if they don't want to. On the topic of RSS, being able to organize RSS feeds into folders would be great too.

2. A built-in feature that gets rid of duplicate bookmarks. I do a lot of research online and save a lot of links to refer back to later. Inevitably, I create some duplicate bookmarks. Every now and then, I'd like to be able to get rid of those duplicates without too much effort, so an automated solution would be much appreciated. Let's improve the already great bookmarks management in Opera.

3. Auto-update. Opera is already a very small download, and users are notified when a new version is available, but making the process easier and more streamlined is always a positive thing. Also, advanced users who are interested in beta versions of Opera should be able to sign up to receive special notifications.

4. A feature to archive webpages. As I mentioned before, Opera is an indispensable research tool, but it would be even better with a built-in method of quickly saving webpages (with images), organizing them, and retrieving them later. In other words, I want something like Obook, but natively implemented within Opera.

5. I want to see Opera Mini tied to GPS in people's phones, so we can support location-based Web services. Web 3.0, here we come!

Bonus: I want to use Opera on my wristwatch! Haha, "OperaWatch", get it? :D

If I tagged you, here are The Rules (reposted from Opera Watch):

Here is how it will work:

Once you’ve been tagged by someone, share your list (on your blog) of 5 things you’d like to see in Opera, and then tag up to 5 other people who will then post their own lists and tag up to 5 more people.

Feel free to list the things you’d like to see in Opera on the desktop, Opera Mini, Opera Mobile, and/or Opera on the Nintendo Wii.

Having all of you share your wish list on your own blogs will not only encourage participation by others, but will also generate discussion about Opera.

I and others at Opera will be on the lookout–monitoring the blogs that have been tagged. You could always make it easier for us to find you if you either link back to this post, post your blog link to the comments of this post, or send me an email with the link. You can also link to the people you are tagging, like I did below.

Thank you for choosing Opera - a personal note of gratitudeSan Diego Comic-Con

I am new to the Opera software so I am still learning things about it. I am currently using Opera on my Nintendo Wii and on my DS Lite. It is easy to use and simple enough that my 6 yr old son can even use it. I to would like to see some of the items listed in your post come about. Let me know if there is more that I should know about fot the Wii and the DS Lite.
