Khu Do Thái Warsaw Ghetto

Các bạn có xem phim “The pianist” chưa? Hay lắm. Phim nói về những ngày tháng hải hùng của một nhạc sỉ dương cầm gốc Do Thái dân Ba Lan, vùng Warsaw, bi kẹt trong thời kỳ Hitler muốn tiêu diệt chủng tộc Do Thái, bị lùa vô sống trong “Warsaw Ghetto”, một khu ổ chuột, bị Hitler cô lập, để nghèo đói, bệnh tật giết chết Do Thái từ từ.

Những ngày trước khi ông thua trận, Hitler đả ra lệnh tàn sát giết hết nhóm người Do Thái sống trong Ghetto nầy, và cho nổ tung tiêu hủy cả thành phố Warsaw. Như đả trình bày trong các bài trước, sau đệ nhị thế chiến, 800,000 dân Warsaw đả chết, 85% thành phố bị hư hại.

Trong phim “The pianist”, bối cảnh của phim là “Warsaw Ghetto”, nhạc trong phim là nhạc Chopin. Khi đến Warsaw hai vợ chồng tôi đả đi nghe nhạc Chopin, và thăm viếng khu “Ghetto” để thấy tận mắt những khu nhà (được xây dựng lại y như ngày xưa), cảnh vật đả được quay lại trong phim.

Xem xong tôi cảm thấy rất may mắn không phải sống trong các chế độ độc tài đảng trị, đả giết chết con người như ngoé nhân danh một chủ nghỉa bây giờ lịch sử cho là sai lầm, nhưng lúc đó họ cho là chân lý. Tôi rất vui mừng những người nằm xuống ở đây không phải là tôi, hay những người tôi thương. Và tôi cảm thấy trân quí sự sống hơn. Tôi cảm thấy sự sống rất mong manh, vì trong lịch sử có nhiều nhà độc tài như vậy, nhân danh một chân lý nào đó để kỳ thị và giết chết không biết bao nhiêu triệu người: Hitler, Stalin, Mao Trạch Đông, Pol Pot.. Các bạn còn biết ai nửa không?

Trước đây dân Do Thái ở Warsaw gần 450,000 người. Vừa rồi khi chúng tôi tham quan Warsaw, số dân Do Thái ở đây chỉ còn 1,000 người mà thôi.

“The Warsaw Ghetto was the largest of the Jewish ghettos established by Nazi Germany in Warsaw, then former capital of Poland located in the territory of General Government during World War II. Between 1941 and 1943, starvation, disease and deportations to concentration camps and extermination camps dropped the population of the ghetto from an estimated 450,000 to approximately 71,000. In 1943 the Warsaw Ghetto was the scene of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, the first urban rebellion against the Nazi occupation of Europe…

Over 100,000 of the Ghetto's residents died due to rampant disease or starvation, as well as random killings, even before the Nazis began massive deportations of the inhabitants from the Ghetto's Umschlagplatz to the Treblinka extermination camp during Operation Reinhard. Between Tisha B'Av (July 23) and Yom Kippur (September 21) of 1942, about 254,000 Ghetto residents were sent to Treblinka and murdered there. In 1942 Polish resistance officer Jan Karski reported to the Western governments on the situation in the Ghetto and on the extermination camps. By the end of 1942, it was clear that the deportations were to their deaths, and many of the remaining Jews decided to fight…

On January 18, 1943, the first instance of armed resistance occurred when the Germans started the final expulsion of the remaining Jews. The Jewish fighters had some success: the expulsion stopped after four days and the ŻOB and ŻZW resistance organizations took control of the Ghetto, building shelters and fighting posts and operating against Jewish collaborators. During the next three months, all inhabitants of the Ghetto prepared for what they realized would be a final struggle.

The final battle started on the eve of Passover, April 19, 1943, when the large Nazi force entered the ghetto. After initial setbacks, the Germans under the field command of Jürgen Stroop systematically burned and blew-up the ghetto block by block, rounding up or killing any Jew they could capture. Significant resistance ended on April 23, 1943, and the German operation officially ended in mid-May, symbolically culminated with the demolition of the Great Synagogue of Warsaw on May 16, 1943. According to the official report, at least 56,065 people were killed on the spot or deported to Nazi concentration and death camps, mostly to Treblinka. “
