Ask.com, Google, Microsoft Live Search and Yahoo announced last week that they will all support “autodiscovery” of sitemaps of websites.
"The new open-format autodiscovery allows webmasters to specify the location of their Sitemaps within their robots.txt file, eliminating the need to submit sitemaps to each search engine separately."
This is a time saver for webmasters, who don’t have to submit the same info to each search engine, but this feature is not a going to influence the order or ranking of your site.
