Maintain IT Project Helps Public Libraries With Their Technology Development

I follow closely what is happening in the technology field in libraries and I try to be well informed but no matter how many blogs, magazines and websites I read on a daily basis there will always be something that I am not able to catch.

That is why I read David Lee King's blog because he is always able to grab in his net interesting ideas, posts and organizations like the Maintain IT Project.

MaintainIT is a three-year project funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. We gather stories from public libraries on how they support public computers and publish their tips and techniques in Cookbooks and articles, available for FREE on the project web site. The Project works with libraries throughout the U.S. and Canada, sharing stories from the field so librarians can learn from each other.

And who is behind MaintainIT, you ask? TechSoup and CompuMentor two nonprofit technology assistance agencies dedicating to help other nonprofits. In addition libraries can access TechSoup Stock, a service providing donated and discounted computers and software.

MaintainIT has so many top notch resources that it is hard to decide where to start. Downloadable free Cookbooks will give you valuable info on how to” maintaining public computers." Webinars on implementing Web 2.0, open source software for libraries and resources for technology training are something you should keep your eye on.

Last but not least, don’t forget to subscribe for the MaintainIT blog and if you have spare time, get involved. I already subscribed and plan to get involved quickly.
