Two Zombies Later Vol 1

, ,

Comfort Stand Recordings
1993
mp3

Here is a real unusual group of recordings. I was searching around for a cover for an upcoming Bobby Hammack post and ran accross the site above. It looks like it is abandoned but maybe not. Most of the links are dead there, but the music is alive and well. Maybe some of you already have this but it was new to me!

The site states that they don't mind if the music is shared and the artists welcome it. This set is hard to describe but it's like Exotica meets Techno meets Space Age Pop! Sort of is and sort of isn't...It appears that the music was contributed by the folks that were part of a forum called the Exotica Mailing List. You will recognize some of the names, WeirdoMusic and Sem Sinatra are two I know of.

This set comes with all the gear: Case Cover, back and insert art as well as the CD art

Anyway here for your listening pleasure is Volume 1 of Two Zombies Later. Volume 2 is just below this post. Make sure you go to the link under the cover above. There are some very interesting liner notes for each of these songs

Subject: who

"Exotica" is possibly the lamest genre name used, world over, and I dont know who the majority of these people are but the simple fact that such an exhaustive collection of space age lounge music can be put together with taste and smart+fun sounding contributions is pleasing in its own right.

As for the sound, it's the style of future/space cocktail lounge music originally laid by the likes of Esquivel! and carried on by bands like Combustible Edison, The Coctails, Stereolab, etc.

Good stuff. Is this possibly the same person using a aliases? It would almost be more surprisingly if it wasnt...

Subject: A. K. A.: Martinibomb

For those of you that may not know... Eric and Ryan Kilkenny from volume 1, track 2 (Bongo Avenger), are also known as "The Martinibomb". These 5 stars are just for them alone.

Check out their other Comfort Stand releases, you will probably like "The Coconut MonkeyRocket" If this style of music is up your alley.

Subject: Fun stuff!

Pour yourself a mai-tai & kick back! Well-produced, loads of fun-- this album updates the 'exotica' sound, tossing in some sampling, electronics & synths for a modern audience. Diverse songs from diverse bands.

Subject: a lovely understated Nature Boy

IBID to everybody; I just wanted to point out how lovely (and yes, melancholy) Philip Jackson's Nature Boy piece is. The sound collages are a good counterpoint to it.

Exotica deluxe! An impressive collection of songs by an even more impressive collection of talented artists who truly "get it." First-quality tiki, exotica, groove-spy, cocktail, with a chill edge. These songs will make your summer more excellent.

Subject: happy hour

I dowloaded nearly every track from my Southern California trailer park while wearing my fez and drinking a tasty concoction of whatever booze was left in the cupboard. Now I have to bid on more tikis for sale on e-bay. Chin Chin.

simply amazing. reminds me of good old martin denny's exotica masterpieces and david shea and scanner's electronica for young lovers. plus more!

Subject: Fantastica!

A refreshing release with top-notch music and top-notch packaging. You may find that a few tracks are not to your liking, but you are bound to find many more that you LOVE in this 2-CD set. The collection has wide appeal, so wide that folks in their 80s love it just as well as the little kids! Eat up!

Subject: superlative exotica compilation

Just spectacularly good - even for those who are only mild fans of exotica, like myself. Highlights such as Don Tiki, Tipsy, amazing moog action from Dana Countryman, and much much more. This compilation will make you want to repair to the Tonga Room in San Francisco and partake of their fifteen-dollar boat-sized cocktails. Must.. download.. now..

On this album is Otis Fodder of all people...He of the "Music to Drive Cross Country By"?
Including Time Out For Grandpa! & If Your A Fan Of Don Henley - You're in Luck......

Thanks again for your hard work putting these together to share with all of us.
Still think Jazz after Midnight-Blues...is the perfect album...
