Morton Gould - Jungle Drums

Morton Gould - Jungle Drums
RCA Victor
LM-1994
Red Seal
Mono
1957

Morton Gould was a child prodigy, playing the piano at the age of 4 and published his first piece of music, a waltz titled, "Just Six," two years later. He performed frequently throughout his childhood, on radio and in concert and vaudeville halls. He graduated from Julliard before the age of 16 and was hired as staff arranger and pianist at Radio City Music Hall.

In his early 20s, he moved to NBC radio and arranged and conducted the studio orchestra on a number of its regular shows. His composition "Pavanne" was written at this time and was widely performed and recorded. He got his own show showcasing "symphonic jazz" in 1939, and another series featuring general orchestral works in 1943. Throughout this time, he was also composing serious pieces on commissioned by such heavyweight conductors as Stokowski, Fritz Reiner, and Dmitri Mitropoulos.

He was the recipient of numerous awards, including Kennedy Center Honors in 1994 and the 1995 Pulitzer Prize for his "Stringmusic," commissioned by the National Symphony Orchestra and composed as a tribute to its music director, Mstislav Rostropovich.

Guest conducting took Mr. Gould to the major orchestras of this country and to Australia, Japan, Mexico and Israel; he also appeared frequently as a guest piano soloist, and he recorded extensively. RCA reissued Gould's five Living Stereo albums on CD in 1996. Like Arthur Fiedler, he was a great lover of fire trucks and firemen, and one of his last pieces was written about a fire truck as an entertainment for his grandson.

Gould was an innovative and adventurous composer and arranger, but many of his recordings may sound too much like classical "pops" music to exotica listeners. Newcomers to Gould are recommended to check out "Jungle Drums" and then see whether more samples are called for. Source:Space Age Pop

I'm not clear why anyone would need Part Two of the .rar, since Part One already has all 15 tracks, the front and back scans (which kick ass by the way), and the track list.

The whole set is 135 mb and RS won't take anything over 100. Therefore 2 parts. Can't believe that something isn't missing without part 2 out of 35 mb. But stranger things have happened in computer land.

I've had this in my "to-do pile" for months now, just couldn't get around to it because, quite frankly, I'm not a big fan of Mr. Gould. I respect him and I think his own composistions are ok - better than his symphono-exotica (i just now coined that word -fyi)covers of other people's material. And speaking of "covers" my mono copy of this record has a much different picture: a topless "island" girl dancing behind a palm tree! - I believe it's the original cover too. Anywho, since you beat me to the punch LP, and warped minds think alike, here's Jungle Drums' sequel from 1964:
More Jungle Drums!

Now before I get any complaints out there, this record was in pretty bad shape, 'specially side 2. That said, I'll bet i removed 100+ pops and made it a good listen to my ears. It's at 320 and has, of course, the front & back scans. Paired with your fine rip LP, they create "two great tastes that taste great together." Or something like that.
Lounge On,
LT

Thanks a bunch LT. I have More... but unlike your copy I didn't even try as it is so bad. People really should treat their vinyl with better respect. LP

Absitively Licorice, but looking back, there were plenty of albums me and my pals turned into frisbees. Oh, to be young & foolish again...
