The Gift of Music

To describe what it is that draws me to the field of Music is difficult to explain because words don’t describe it well. Which is why it is music. Music is a unique gift of creativity from God. Music has a way of touching people deep down in their hearts, in their souls, touching their emotions, bringing joy, bringing sadness, bringing conviction, and bringing us to our knees. It is a way that God can and does use to communicate to our hearts. To remind us of his promises. To remind us who is in control, that He is Faithful, our Grace Amazing. To remind us about his magnificent attributes. Holy. Omniscient. Omnipresent. Omnipotent. Alpha and Omega. Wonderful, Counselor. Tender, Gentle, Abba. Advocate, Almighty God, Holy one of Israel, the Son of Righteousness, the Chief Cornerstone, the Resurrection and the Life. Lamb of God and Son of God and Son of Man and Lord of All, He is the Great I Am, Forever. Light of the World, He is the Head of the Church. The Way, the Truth and the Life.

Music is more than just a form of communication. It is so much more. Just as we cannot put limits on who God is, or put God in a box, so too with music. Music has so many aspects and sides to it. It is accessible to so many people. There are so many styles and songs that have already been written. Have you ever considered the power and beauty of instrumental, orchestral or soundtrack music to bring various emotions? There is something about it, something almost indescribable that can get you to cry, or worry about what will happen next (think Jaws) or be deliriously happily-ever-after happy. When words are added to music it adds another element, whether by poetry, ballad, story or verse.
