My own self

Loki's sensible nonsense of nonsensical sense

Executive Love

, , , ,

Joss Whedon: I find that when you read a script, or rewrite something, or look at something that's been gone over, you can tell, like rings on a tree, by how bad it is, how long it's been in development.

Neil Gaiman: Yes. It really is this thing of executives loving the smell of their own urine and urinating on things. And then more execs come in, and they urinate. And then the next round. By the end, they have this thing which just smells like pee, and nobody likes it.

Joss Whedon: There's really no better way to put it.

I don't care if it's four years old, I'm loving this interview.

Amrasananas 23. February 2009, 11:34

I think that interview must have been the Apex of Everything Awesome.

Thank you ever so much for providing that link.

Georgius the Peasant 23. February 2009, 14:13

I wholeheartedly agree. I just wish it didn't end so abruptly! (Or, you know, at all!)

Terje "Smith" 25. March 2009, 17:36

They did indeed seem to end just when they'd worked up a momentum.

Anyway, thankyouthankyouthankyou for sharing! A conversation between two of the legs of my triad of awesomeness isn't something I stumble across every day...

Georgius the Peasant 25. March 2009, 19:52

In lieu of your other comment here tonight I'm assuming your third divinity of awesome is a Mr. A. Sorkin?

By the way, now that BSG is done in all its glory, all I need from Ron Moore is a demonstration that he, like those three, can do Excellence in several stories, not just one, and he'll probably dig his way into making this a quorum of four.

Terje "Smith" 26. March 2009, 12:26

But didn't Ron Moore at least co-create Hercules: The Legendary Journeys?

And no, I'm afraid I mix media up a bit in my tripod, as the third leg of that handy cooking aid of awesome is Thom Yorke, the lyricist, singer and occasional guitar player in Radiohead.

But now that I think of it, Mr. Sorkin could indeed be the metaphorical pot, or something. Or perhaps I could have bumped Messrs. Whedon or Gaiman up to pot status and used Mr. Sorkin as a leg.

This pointless metaphor requires more pondering, and as I am currently supposed to be working on my Athens home exam, what better time?

Georgius the Peasant 26. March 2009, 13:07

Ron Moore on Hercules? What? I've never heard that. You're not mixing with Sam Raimi, are you? Moore was on some Star Trek-shows, though, but never as a creator, so I don't think that would count. Can't judge someone exclusively on their contributions to other people's work.

Terje "Smith" 26. March 2009, 15:01

Sorry, I mixed Moore up with David Eick, who co-produced 13 episodes of Hercules. And quite possibly also with Raimi, of course.

Georgius the Peasant 26. March 2009, 15:04

Ah, I've not followed or checked up on Eick particularly, though I know I should, him being a co-creator and all. (I feel similarly guilty about Angel's David Greenwalt)

Terje "Smith" 26. March 2009, 17:27

I did watch Moonlight for seven or eight episodes, so I got Greenwalt slightly covered, at least.

Georgius the Peasant 26. March 2009, 17:33

Heavy on the slightly. They brought him in and then kicked him out before the show even started airing. Believe he might have been involved in the first two episodes or something like that.

Terje "Smith" 27. March 2009, 16:47

Hmm, yeah, that sounds about right.
