singing-like-a-bird, quote of the day
All we wanna do is eat your brains.
We're not unreasonable - I mean, no-one's gonna eat your eyes.

singing-like-a-bird, Christmas, time, quote of the day
"Julestjerne, får jeg deg?"
sa en gang en liten pike.
Ville gi
et kongerike
for å kjenne deg...
"Julestjerne, gå din vei!"
sa en bitter konge siden.
Mørk ble du
- og mørk ble tiden.
Må du gjemme deg?
Julestjerne, kom til meg!
Du har voldt oss sorg og smerte.
Se nå gir jeg deg
mitt hjerte.
Får jeg kjenne deg?
Julestjerne, bli hos meg!
Det er godt å se deg skinne.
Du må aldri mer
forsvinne...
Aldri glemme meg.

By Obdormio, too, and he's a picky one, so yay.
I spontaneously translated the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-theme to Nynorsk and put it in first person:
ME ER VERDAS MEST FRYKTSAME SLÅSSENDE SAMARBEIDSGRUPPE!
ME ER HELTAR!
I SKJELPADDESKAL!
OG ME ER GRØNE!
NÅR DEN VONDE MAKULERAREN GÅR TIL ÅTAK!
SÅ TEK ME SKJELPADDEGUTAR SLETT IKKJE SÅ LETT PÅ DET!
MUTERTE NINJA-TENÅRINGSKJELPADDER!
MUTERTE NINJA-TENÅRINGSKJELPADDER!
MUTERTE NINJA-TENÅRINGSKJELPADDER!
HELTAR I SKJELPADDESKAL!
SKJELPADDEKRAFT!
Erlend, of course, quotes the best bit:
"Når den vonde makuleraren går til åtak, så tek me skjelpaddegutar slett ikkje så lett på det!"

"2 plus 2 is 4!
And in related news, 4 plus 4...is 8!"
Self-esteem is for everyboy.
Self-esteem is for everyone.
You can dream and be anybody!
But self-esteem is how you get it done.

always-wanted-to-do-that, book-review, DC Comics, singing-like-a-bird
"Pearls are for a special night."
"Couldn't we make it special?"
Batman: Haunted Knight. The third (well, technically first, but third I've gotten my hands on) Batman TPB by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale, which collects the three Batman Halloween-specials they did before thinking up and making the wonder that is "The Long Halloween". Like the two in TLH, these three halloweens occur during Batman's early years, though exactly when isn't stated.
I liked Sale's drawings a lot in this. I'm warming to his style, actually. There are still some few panels here andthere I don't like, but on the whole, I'm starting to like his way of drawing.
The first story, "Fears", is about Bruce and Batman. They even have different inner monologues, taking turns in showing us what the man beneath the cowl is thinking. As the title indicates, the villain here is Scarecrow, but that's more a plot-mechanism to allow for the inner fight of the main character than anything else, as I see this. A very good story, I'll easily give this an 8 out of 10.
The second story, "Madness", well, the villain is less easily predicted from just glancing at the title - it could be almost anybody from Arkham - but in this one, it is the Mad Hatter, who, as Scarecrow did in the first story, is there to serve as a plot-device to cause the main character's inner struggles throughout the story. Which in this one is far more interesting and powerful, I feel, than the one in "Fears", though the plot itself is maybe weaker. Still, I'll give this an 8,5.
The third story, "Ghosts", is in my opinion the weakest of the three. While both the others also focused on Batman's inner life, this is the only one to almost bar out everything else, as most of the story is a feverish dream based on "A Christmas Carol". While it is splendidly done, I dislike seeing remakes of ACC everywhere I turn, and I didn't really feel this story did anything with the character not already done in "Fears". Still, it's a good read, and I'm enough of a sap to find the ending rather touching, so I'll give it 7/10.
So, a good book indeed, this. Took me only three busrides to read it, too.

The sinister Magistrado Don Carlos Galindo, infuriated: "You just let Zorro escape from your own cuartel !"
The newly instated Comandantè Arturo Toledano, smiling pleasantly: "Indeed I did. I'm starting to see why they write songs about him."
I love that series.

Blackaaaaadder, Blackaaaaaadder,
a monarch with panache!
Blackaaaaaadder, Blackaaaaaaadder,
he's got a nice moustache!
Blackaaadder, Blackaaaadder,
his beard is neatly curled,
Blackaaaadder, Blackaaaaaaaaaaaaadder,
He's going to rule the world!
So, despite my quoting the "Back and Forth"-special, I've been watching season 2 and 3-episodes the last couple of days, and my God, it is as good as I remember. Indeed season 4 is the best one, but I've watched it so many times the other ones are starting to look better for share lack of knowing every word by heart.
The series is so cunning that you could stick a tail on it and call it a weasel.
Blackaaaadder, Blackaaadder,
with many a cunning plaaaaan,
Blackaaaadder, Blackaaaaaader,
you horrid little maaaaan!

always-wanted-to-do-that, Browncoaty goodness, rant, singing-like-a-bird
it's the last oath that I ever swore...(That
Mal's song is damned good for a fanmade song.)
Anyway, my brother, when he came home for the Easter holidays, had bought "Serenity" on DVD. I'm not sure if this makes me happy for both having it in the house already and not having to buy it myself, or annoyed at not owning it myself but now not having a good reason for buying it.
So, I watched it. First, I watched it with my dad. (He liked what he saw of "Firefly" when he sometimes sat down with my younger brothers when they watched the series, but the English-only-subtitles threw him somewhat off, and obviously, the movie had Norwegian subtitles and then all was well) Then, I watched all the bonus material. Then I watched the Joss-commentary-track.
It was all wonderful, but over far too soon. Sniffle.
Anyway, I loved it, possibly even more than when watching it in the cinema, I think the expectations and the Very First Experience had been digested now and I could view it more cooly, more objectively (I saw it only twice in the cinema, and with only a week between viewings, both now being half a year ago) and I found I loved it.

This, I think, is good.
I still prefer two or three of the episodes from the series to it, but hey, "Out of Gas" is simply too excellent, no movie could ever top such splendor, so that's not really a fair comparison anyway.
And Jayne? Beaten up by a girl. That part never gets old.
"It's okay to leave them to die."
"Hey! I'm taking your sister under my protection here. I swear to you, if anything happens to her, I'll get very choked up. Honestly - there could be tears!"
HILLARITY!
"He'll be back before you can spit. Not that you spit."
SADNESS!
"I don't murder children."
"I do."
DRAMA!
"You see us fight?"
"...no?"
"Trap."
ALL OF THE ABOVE!
I'm a leaf on the wind.
Watch how I soar.

*sighs happily*
"How can I repay y-"
"Whatever."
"BUNNIES! IT MUST BE BUNNIES!"
"They got! The mustard! Ouuuuuuuuuuuut!"
"The moon to your tide."
"That her toes are... kinda hairy."
"I'm asking you please no! It isn't right, it isn't fair! There was no parking anywhere! I think that hydrant wasn't there."
"...so... you're not staying then?"
"What I mean, I'm fifteen, so this queen-thing's illegal!"
"Your path's unbeaten, and it's all uphill.
And you can take it, but you never will.
And I'm the reason, that you're standing still.
But I..."
"You made me believe..."
"Wish I could play the father, and take you by the hand..."
"I touch the fire and it freezes me. I look into it, and its black."
"I hope she fries! I'm free if that bitch dies! ...I'd better help her out."
"We'll see it through, that's what we're always here to do, so we will walk through the fire."
"First I'll kill her, then I'll save her!"
"I think this line's mostly filler."
"Showtime."
"Give me something to sing about."
"All the joys life sends. Family - and friends. All the twists - and bends. Knowing that - it ends. Well that depends - on if they let you go, on if they know enough to know, that when you bow... you leave the crowd..."
"You have to go on living. So one of us is living."
"Understand; we'll go hand in hand, but we'll walk alone in fear."
"Bugger this."

The garrison sleeps in the citadel
with the ghosts and the ancient stones .
High on the parapet
a Scottish piper stands alone.
High on the wind
the highland drums begin to roll,
and something from the past just comes
and stares into my soul.
And it's
cold on the tollgate
with the Caledonian blues.
Cold on the tollgate;
God knows what I could do with you,
and that's what is is.
It's what it is now.
It's what it is.
It's what it is now.
God I love that song. I have little or no clue as to what it means, but dear God I love it.
