Loki's sensible nonsense of nonsensical sense

Punisher: War Zone

, ,

Gods beneath us - how did I manage not to notice that RAY STEVENSON is to be Punisher in the upcoming movie before today?!

Suddenly, I'm looking enormously forward to it.

Heh, I didn't know until I read it here, so don't beat yourself up too
bad. :)

Despite the travesty that was the 2004 Punisher movie, I am looking forward to seeing the only Marvel character I still enjoy reading about on the big screen.
I am not familiar with Lexi Alexander's work, but I pray that she will do the comic justice, and that she will not shy away from its ultra-violence.

Due to his performance as Titus Pullo in Rome, I am confident that Stevenson will shine in his portrayal of the infamous, relentless force of brutality that is Frank Castle.

Fingers crossed. ;)

Aye. He even had some few Dark And Silent-scenes in Rome, in spite of his character's normal behaviour, which makes me as well very confident he'll make an excellent Castle.

As for Marvel, I don't really read anything these days, though I'm theoretically still trying to keep up with the TPB's on Ultimate Spider-man and Ultimate X-men. I also have a tentative subscription to Iron Man, as he's been my favourite Marvel-hero for years and I feel embarrassed not to have read anything at all from his main title. Still, there are probably better ways to rectify that than by a subscription to whatever they're currently putting out.

(Also, yay for someone new commenting on my weblog!)

I used to love reading my brother's Marvel comics when I was little, especially Spider-Man and Punisher. I also LOVED the Secret Wars story, and read it countless times.

Pullo's dark and silent moments, combined with his savage fury, are perfect for the portrayal of Frank Castle.

"Pullo's dark and silent moments, combined with his savage fury, are perfect for the portrayal of Frank Castle."

My thoughts exactly.

Marvel, I've read a bit. 1602, Ultimates, Ultimate Spider-man, Ultimate X-men, couple of years' worth of the Norwegian Spider-man and X-men runs, Secret Wars, Hulk: Grey, Spider-man: Blue, DareDevil: Yellow, Civil War. There's a decent amount of stuff I've read. I seem to read more DC these days, though, which is very odd as I much prefer the Marvel universe to DC with the one exception of Batman and Gotham City. (Which goes a long way to explain the DC-overweight, I suppose, as most of it is Batman or Batman-related)

Heh. You're both n00bs; I've known this for weeks. WEEEKS, I say!

Though I have to say that while Stevenson seems like a good fit for the part, I just couldn't bring myself to like the trailer. Let's hope it's just a second case of Marvel making poor trailers for their films (I'm obviously thinking of "Incredible Hulk" and not "Iron Man", which had an _awesome_ trailer)

Georgius the Peasant 16. June 2008, 21:05

I thought the trailer was promising, but nothing extraordinary or even particularly noteworthy. What made it a yay-moment for me was A. learning of Stevenson's involvement and B. seeing that they clearly want to make the movie appear as grittier than the last one.

(Btw, dude, thanks for the message on MSN, I find myself unable to log on at the moment and sent you the reply on mail instead)

Also, while the idea of the Punisher vs. God was on the cheesy side, it made me smile something fierce

Yeah - its a good casting for the Punisher.
Following on the Rome theme - have you seen whose been tentatively cast as thor. Im hoping hes only playing the donald blake side.

Georgius the Peasant 17. June 2008, 11:25

Hm, with the exception of his being on the shorter side of what you'd expect, I think he'd do a good Thor.

Cryonic 18. June 2008, 08:28

Short and not really muscular enough. Its Thor - practically anyone real would be 'on the short side'

Georgius the Peasant 18. June 2008, 11:20

I'd honestly rather have someone who can act than someone who fits the physical description neatly. Also, as they stated on Rome, he has a "Gaelic look about him", which I think serves as Norse-ish too.
