My own self

Loki's sensible nonsense of nonsensical sense

Yahoooooo!

, ,

I got my application for post-ponement of my civic-duty-thingie (which I'm doing instead of the otherwise compulsory year in the army for all Norwegian men) granted for another year!

That means I'll be studying for two more terms and still not contributing to society in any way! Yeah, baby!

Yes... All Norwegian men...

...save those not fit for service. Such as me. Society turned my contributions down! Yeah! Go me!

Georgius the Peasant 8. May 2006, 15:13

Yeah, I'm not fit for service, either, I was just too damned stupid to tell them that, I thought it'd be safer just to say I'd take the non-militaristic alternative instead.

Damned be that seventeen-year-old-me, he didn't know shit!

Thanketithanks! :D

Hm, av ein eller annan grunn vart eg no overbevist om at "Congrats" på eit eller anna vis er eit slanguttrykk introdusert til språket gjennom Rotigans vondskapsfulle planar, e.l. "Kong Rats"... *shudder*

Norwegians have a compulsory year or army time? that sucks. here you can volunteed to do it and they'll pay your way through college. so what's this alternative civic-duty thing you can do?

I don't mean to pry, but I've never heard of any country doing this in recent years. I guess ignorance is bliss.

Georgius the Peasant 9. May 2006, 23:45

Male Norwegians do, yes. It's discrimination, and it bugs the hell out of me. I'd have far less issues with it if they had a compulsory year of something for women, too.

But it's very, very easy to get out of it, we have a very, very small army, they don't really need more than, like, 20% of the boys to actually participate. Plus, there's a lot of volunteering women, too, so... they have more than enough people. It's just a matter of time before they finally gets rid of the system, I guess.

Congratulations, Loki! :D

Although you should have done like me: Selected regular miltary service, and then come up with some insane disease or genetical error that no doctor has heard of before, and thus getting a pretty long postponement.

But this is about you, and to emphasize that, I repeat myself: Congratulations and celebrations! (And there we stop the quote. :P)

Georgius the Peasant 15. May 2006, 00:40

(I think that's wise)

Thank you! :D

Not to take the pleassure out of ditching the military - I so understand you Terje and Obdomino - but I feel inclined to point to the fact that a lot of employers don't hire people who haven't served. That is, however, more of a problem for those in the buisnessworld than of those who lack ambition to rise in those circles (read: teachers, librarians, authors etc).

Georgius the Peasant 20. May 2006, 16:32

I lack ambition to rise in ANY circle - apart from the exclusive petulant arrogant and snotty besserwisser-bastard-circle, obviously - so that's not an issue. Thanks for telling, though, information is always handy.

(And yes, should I, gods forbid, ever start EARNING money, I'd probably be a teacher, librarian or author (ordered from "most likely and least tempting" to "I guess that if I HAVE to earn money, this is the
'yaaay'-option") so it still won't matter ^^)
