- Lex LuthorSooner or later I will find out - are you a saviour? Or a warning?
Okay, so annoyingly enough, Smallville seems more promising than ever. (Just as I thought I was on my way out, the show pulls me back in. For, like, the umptheenth time!) While their degree of improvement from season to season always have been way too small to warrant constant renewal when shows a million times better right of the bat gets cancelled like nobody's business, they HAVE had an almost constant, gradual improvement. It could be bigger. It should be bigger. But by seven seasons in, it all adds up to a rather nice show.
This season, they're promising lots. The inclusion of Supergirl struck me intitially as a sad gimmick to attract viewers with yet another hot girl to put in swimming suits as often as humanly possible, but this far, while they do put her in even less clothes than Lois, her plotline's been both interesting in itself and adding to the overall plots. Yay. Also, this season can flaunt a Lana that's finally somewhat interesting due to her enormous growth as a character after her marriage with Lex last season, a Lex that's pulling a season 4 Lionel-turnaround, a Lionel gone MIA, the US government sniffing on Clark's heels, a Chloe who's a meteor-freak and a Jimmy Olsen who might actually get something interesting to do. And rumor has it; there'll be a return of a certain Mr. Marsters as Brainiac. Which just can't go bad - they can't possibly repeat the gross underuse of him from season 5, can they?
And the episodes themselves have been good. They're managing to include the freak-of-the-week-stuff in the overall plotlines, which is good, and the overall plotlines are genuinely interesting, which is great. And there's Lex. Holy smokes, Batman, but we do love our Lex.
I'm frustrated to say, if they keep this up, I might just end up impressed. With the Clark Saves Santa From Committing Suicide On Christmas Eve-show.
Which should just not happen!
