Beginning to Smile

Truly, if you look over your shoulder after the Thai person passed, you may notice a return of a serious expression. Still, even a momentary lift in spirits generated by a smile in both parties underscores benefits of the modest expenditure of energy entailed in moving many muscles of the face.I walked along lakeside for countless times by now. Many of the people whom I passed in my walks had more cares than I did. For a long time I felt afraid to make acknowledgement of the strangers whom I encountered by the lake. Then, a colleague pointed out that he smiled to let people know that he wasn’t a threat to them, and I followed suit. So now I smile as much as possible as I walk.
Many times the person may have a strenuous running session in and on mind that requires their focus. They may not acknowledge me as they hurl past me. Some people are naturally shy or introverted and so can’t gather the energy necessary to meet a stranger like me whom they encounter on the way. These exceptions prove the rule of the benefit of smiling, in my book. When I ventured nothing, I gained nothing.
