About me
Loquor, Latin for "I speak", is my username. I wanted one that reflected my interests in foreign languages, and was also a bit different.I and my wife, the lovely and gracious Mary, are still newlyweds: we celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary on October 12, 2007. We are both Christians and members of the Palm Street Church of Christ in Lonoke, Arkansas (35 miles southeast of Little Rock). We support missions, particularly ones that promote evangelism and church growth, provide medical services, and serve children. We hope to adopt children ourselves one day. We have a dog, Beau, who is half Akita and half border collie, and two cats: Patches, a male former feral cat who adopted us, and Penny, a Siamese female who was abused and abandoned before we adopted her.
I grew up in Louisiana with Christian parents, and from a young age loved learning about the Bible, coming to know Jesus, and sharing him with others.I developed an interest in preaching and teaching Bible classes, both due to my Dad's influence (He preached for a small church while I was in high school) and to being taught by outstanding Bible teachers and preachers. After college, I attended and graduated from Preston Rd. School of Preaching in Dallas, Texas (later known as the Center for Christian Education), and preached regularly for churches of Christ in Texas and Louisiana for almost eleven years. I still do fill-in preaching when I can and lead Wednesday evening devos at church. Since coming to Palm Street in 2001, I have also taught adult Bible classes on the Bible books of Daniel, Ezekiel, and Revelation. I also enjoy leading singing at worship services. Missionary work and evangelism are also activities I enjoy, and I have participated both in domestic efforts and in missions to Canada and Mexico. When possible, my wife and I hope to start a local Hispanic ministry.
I also enjoy doing in-depth study of the Bible using the original languages (Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek). This includes doing translation of Bible passages. I have done my own full translations of Philippians and John from the New Testament, as well as interlinear translations of the letters of 1, 2, and 3 John. Also I have translated selected passages of the Old Testament. Currently I am revising and reformatting the second draft of my translation of John, and making extensive study notes on selected passages. Eventually I hope to publish all these, as well as to translate the rest of the books of the Bible.
Continued growth as a Bible scholar is important to me, so I have started graduate studies online in the Master of Relgious Studies program of NationsUniversity. In addition, I have regularly read scholarly commentaries, special studies, and journal articles, including those in The Bible Translator, to which I subscribe.
I am also interested in Christian Evidences, church history, and biblical history, archaeology, and geography.
My secular interests include learning HTML and CSS for developing web pages and digital photography.
