Ieuan Does Something Really Stupid.....

On September 29 I got a cool new wood splitter so I don't have to use a sledge & a wedge all winter long. So I built a platform for said splitter and start to heft it on the platform. The splitter is only a 120 pounds but all the weight is at one end and it's a bit awkward. Well it starts to slip and I catch it, and place it on the platform.
I noticed my back didn't feel quite right but I went to work the next day; between the initial strain and wearing a 15 pound duty belt for three days my back finally said ENOUGH! I go to the doctor and get some x-rays taken. Now I'm no doctor but I know that I'm supposed to have a curve in the lumbar region of my spine...it's gone, perfectly straight! My muscles were that strained.
The strain clears up but there was still something going on with my back. Long story short I have very long term nerve damage to the right side of spine. The specialists do blood and other tests but all is normal so they are are scratching their heads. I try to give them some information that may solve the riddle but I'm not the doctor. Maybe, just maybe, it was 5 years of being an audio engineer and roadie lifting insane amounts of weight on a daily basis, or the 6 years of Tae Kwon Do putting my hands and feet through bricks and boards, and finally the 20 years of carrying around a duty belt, jumping fences and wrestling suspects to the ground? Ya think guys?
So now I'm in physical therapy and should go back to work in Janurary. I just have to remember that I'm 45 and have to be a little kinder to my back as I advance in years. I'm not happy about this because my brain still thinks I'm 25 and bullet proof. Piss.

Are you seeing a chiropractor, or doesn't their insurance cover that?

(hubby would be jealous)
Not so cool about your back. I do hope that you heal up well.
