The geek inferno

We geek have problems, like fixing computers for friends and relatives. Today I had to go to my uncle who complained on the phone about the antivirus giving an error so he could not produce his movies. It is extremely difficult to deal with people who don't know what a file is, how files are organized on the disk and that say they are too old to learn whatever you may say. So there is the the geek, after some yelling for nonsense answers, thinking to type "format c: /u/c" if not "fdisk" but then you remember of the bright side of the Force and try to debug both the system errors (it wasn't the antivirus of course but explorer.exe) and your uncle. At the end, after uninstalling almost anything and reinstalled it all you find the problem was a video encoding interrupted by an hard reboot (oh I did not know I could not reboot, it was taking sooo long). You wipe the working folder full of trash of any kind and you wait the next call. Just another day.
Edit: hey, did I say "folder"? Gosh, I meant "directory".

Social experiment for girls: you go where geeks work and say "oh gosh my computer has something wrong". See what happens.

Mini skirts help a lot then... They should add it to the help, something like "computer stopped working? wear a mini skirt and look for a room full of geeks".

I sympathize with you Lorenzo. Being a geek trying to seem "cool" I have 4 other persons that I have to help when they sit on the computer (including my brother who has studied computers :yikes:). On the other hand, if the girl is cute, I wouldn't mind helping even if she didn't wear a mini skirt
