Blogging since the First Age

New MyOpera top bar

Here we are. Two main evident flaws in my opinion:

1. The top bar is too high. A lot of wasted space in the page. Looks really too heavy on top of the blog. It should be resized at least 1/3. I would like to know who in MyOpera decided this change in the graphics. Do you really want a bigger "MyOpera/Opera" logo well visible in the page? Put it on top of the sidebar without the option for removing it. That huge bar really sucks.

2. I can't access my files without passing through my account general settings, that is obviously wrong. "Files" needs an item in the menu.

More notes:
3. The hitslink stasts service doens't work correctly, I can't edit my account, when I submit the form I get an error about the billing information missing.

4. The "subscriptions" page on MyOpera and the whole "friends - friendly people - subscription" mechanism is somehow wrong. First, you should be asked for authorization when somebody adds you as "friend", since then you are showed on her/his page. Second, when you add somebody as friend you should be automatically subscribed to her/his blog. There should be an option to subscribe all the posts inside a subscribed blog, in order to get all the updates in comments. The subscriptions page should allow you multiple selection of items and then remove all together, instead one by one like now.

I agree about the top Opera bar. it's abnormally huge and the gradient makes it popout a little too much.

I've just joined Opera & really think the people who are blogging are really great compared to other blog sites. But...

I am having some issues with how Opera is set up, i.e. not authorizing being added as someone's friend (as you pointed out) & some of the functions are really not that intuitive. Unless I am just an idiot, which I don't think is the case.

Agreed, the authorization of friends needs to be better, based on a 2-way system, ie: Person A sends friends request, Person B can accept or Deny, just like most other sites.

I guess at least you can delete freaky people once they show up. Just like you have to police nasty or spam comments on your YouTube channel.

Good idea!!! It would be very good if I got notification about new posts of all my friends!smile

You can be notified if you "subscribe" the blog. You get notified about comments on a single post whenever you add your comment. You can also manage subscriptions from the top bar menu "my page - subscriptions".

You've been tagged! cool

Lorenzo CelsiLorenzoCelsi Wednesday, January 30, 2008 9:13:44 PM

This is one of those things I don't understand.

Mizz MartínezMizzMartinez Wednesday, January 30, 2008 9:32:05 PM

It's fun Lorenzo! Tell, what part don't you understand? happy

Lorenzo CelsiLorenzoCelsi Thursday, January 31, 2008 9:19:04 AM

It seems I've got a different idea of "fun".

Mizz MartínezMizzMartinez Thursday, January 31, 2008 9:20:52 AM

Of course you do! wink We are all unique! bigsmile

Lorenzo CelsiLorenzoCelsi Thursday, January 31, 2008 9:22:46 AM

Judging by people repeating the same acts, like "tagging" and "re-tagging" other people again and again like robots, It seems there aren't that many "uniques" out there.

Mizz MartínezMizzMartinez Thursday, January 31, 2008 9:29:47 AM

I don't agree with you, but we have all unique experiences which makes us unique!

OlgaOlgita Thursday, January 31, 2008 10:00:02 AM

Lorenzo, come on!!!! Write something!smile

Lorenzo CelsiLorenzoCelsi Thursday, January 31, 2008 10:05:02 AM

I am not in the mood of writing in these days.

OlgaOlgita Thursday, January 31, 2008 10:39:28 AM

By the way!!!
I am going to write a letter to Opera manegement!wink
I really fed up of that boys who add girls as their friend!
I think that we should have a chance to give permission for adding us to somebody`s friend list. So i agree with Mr. Celsi...

PS: Lorenzo, I am skink for your authorization!wink Can I add you to my friend list?

Lorenzo CelsiLorenzoCelsi Thursday, January 31, 2008 11:48:08 AM

See, I don't like "social" communities like MySpace because this fake idea of "friends". I prefer more "conventional" blogging where traditionally you have got the "blogroll" that can be either a list of links to other blog you read and/or an updated feed with the last posts from some blogs you read.
It is different to have a list of "raccomended" blogs instead of a friend list like the one you get on MyOpera.
I guess to be displayed in the "friends" space in the sidebar you should be asked for authorisation because that makes you somehow phisically associated to that blog.

Add me to your friendlist if you like. smile

OlgaOlgita Thursday, January 31, 2008 11:58:58 AM

Lorenzo, for me "friend" in my opera means that I can easily get your blog here and read your new posts:)

Lorenzo CelsiLorenzoCelsi Thursday, January 31, 2008 12:06:15 PM

Like I said above, generally speaking you can make a blogroll that is a list of links to whatever website you want to "reccomend", included blogs.
In addition you could publish the list of your blog subscriptions, doing so you could have the last "x" posts from the blogs you read displayed.

That means instead of adding me as "friend" you could add my blog as link to your link list.
If you want to be notified about my blog updates you have to "subscribe" my blog. It would be nice to have the option to publish your subscritions in your blog.

In MyOpera things about "links" - "friends" - "subscriptions" are a little confused and by the way it is also almost impossible to make effecive searches on the community to find out the blogs you might be interested more.

I haven't thought much about designing a community so far and I don't know exactly the reasons behind the features we get on MyOpera.
