Easter - Pasqua

I had lunch with my brother and family. Here some pics.Barbara's mom an dad, my mom, brother Guido with Martina and Barbara.Me holding Martina Martina being carried as a bag of potatoes by dad (and not liking it much). Martina having fun sitting on the floor, probably her favorite place.
Pillows are there because she can't sit well yet and sometimes she falls head on and laughs.

Martinas so cute!

I'm glad you had a nice Easter. bigsmile

What did you eat? Its common here that people eat baked ham at Easter. We did not though. We have homemade tamales made by hermits mom who is Mexican. yes
Yum yummy!!

In my family we don't have many traditions. My brother made some "lasagne" and a sort of "salted cake" with vegetables, cheese and ham inside, then we had roasted peppers, eggs and "salame" (these two because of a tradition from Barbara's family), then some "colomba" that is a typical sweet for easter here, made in the shape of a pigeon, then strawberries with cream and coffee.

Happy easter Lorenzo smile Did you have any chocolate?

Lorenzo CelsiLorenzoCelsi Sunday, April 12, 2009 7:35:30 PM

ah those! I saw those in a posh supermarket here! I didn't know what shape they were meant to be though. They looked really nice, but they were also really expensive so I couldn't try one.

Lorenzo CelsiLorenzoCelsi Sunday, April 12, 2009 8:32:29 PM

You are right, the shape in itself is not clear but usually there is a drawing of a dove (not pigeon but it is almost the same) on the box.

those sound delicious for sure. Happy Easter! I already celebrated mine but we had lunch with my mother in law at a "southwestern" restaurant so not easter at all, like Hermitess 'ham' is the tradition. My husband wanted to use it as an excuse to buy some and eat some but so much for that idea (his mom and I wanted to just do something easy) .

I like the "sack of potatoes" carrying of the baby, although martina didn't like it , it looks kind of cute whistle

Lorenzo CelsiLorenzoCelsi Monday, April 13, 2009 7:41:00 AM

She is a quiet baby girl on average but she likes to be carried in somebody's arms instead of her stroller and she is getting heavy.
Then she does not want to sleep, so she resists as much as she can, then sometimes cries because she is tired.

Glad to hear that you had a good time.
Too bad you did not have any chocolates. smile

Ah I know that well, my mom calls it when the babies do that "crazy tired" since they tire themselves out instead of sleeping lol

Annenudelsieb Tuesday, April 14, 2009 3:44:32 PM

Such a cute girl! I think it's great for you to watch her grow!

I like the dove shape tradition - here we are overrun by rabbits (though there are lamb-shaped cakes too) and I think that doves and lambs have much more to do with a Christian celebration than a rabbit smile

Lorenzo CelsiLorenzoCelsi Tuesday, April 14, 2009 3:51:18 PM

Actually all the "christian" celebrations are either roman holidays (like Christmas that was more or less the celebration for the solstice) or jewish holidays (like Easter that was Pesach, celebration for the escape of Jews from Egypt).

On a side note, the jewish Pesach celebrates a very "nice" history. The doors of the jews being signed with lamb blood and the angel sent by God that seeing the sign leaves the Jews alone while he exterminates all the first born children in the egiptian homes.

Just in case somebody wants to find "peace" in the Bible.

*g* cruel torah, if one doesn't care to read all of it. I'd say the stories are just as cruel as life is. Why should life tell something else?
I like it that Easter is called Pasqua in Italian, so at least the name wasn't compromised. wink

Lorenzo CelsiLorenzoCelsi Tuesday, April 14, 2009 8:06:57 PM

I don't think it is related to life but to human mind. In this case the Jews like(d) to think God loves them above all so until they follow god's will (known through the prophets) God is going to make their enemies suffer, not only with basic tricks like deadly rain of fire but with more subtile psychological tactics like exterminating their sons. Which, BTW, was a popular game among the Jews if king Herod ordered the killing of all the babies of Israel to get little Jesus before he could grow up and become a menace.

Besides, like the king of the Greeks sacrifices his daughter to the Gods before leaving to Troy, Abram sacrifices his son Isaac (but God seeing Abram's faith spares Isaac's life). Like Hercules is son of Zeus, so Jesus is son of Yaveh. There aren't many new ideas around.

Have I written that I like Martina? A great modell for the future? p
